The Prime Minister has confirmed that Independent Member of Parliament Anthony Smith Jr. will contest the next general election as a candidate for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, signaling a significant political development ahead of the 2028 polls. According to Browne, Smith’s track record of service and commitment to the people of All Saints West played a major role in this decision. He described Smith as a results-driven representative who has consistently demonstrated a willingness to go beyond political lines to deliver for his constituents.
Even while serving as an independent, Smith has been actively engaged in community development, often working in collaboration with both government agencies and private sector partners. In one notable effort, he secured access to a cement facility to obtain materials needed to address infrastructure challenges within the constituency.
Residents of All Saints West have also seen firsthand Smith’s hands-on approach. From road repairs to community improvement projects, he has remained active on the ground, at times utilizing his own resources to ensure work gets done. His ability to foster partnerships between public and private stakeholders has created a level of synergy that has translated into tangible benefits for the community.
Beyond infrastructure, Smith has built a reputation for his humanitarian efforts. He is widely recognized for distributing food packages and providing consistent support to vulnerable families, reinforcing his image as a representative deeply connected to the needs of the people.
His work in agriculture has also been noteworthy. Through his ministry, Smith has been instrumental in supporting local farmers and revitalizing key agricultural initiatives, including efforts to reconstruct the well-known Black Pineapple farm in the Cades Bay area. These initiatives have contributed to strengthening local food production and supporting livelihoods within the farming community.
Above all, Smith is regarded by many as someone who is driven by a genuine desire to help others. His consistent presence and community-focused approach have earned him growing support across All Saints West.
With the next general election constitutionally due in 2028, Smith’s anticipated candidacy under the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party banner is expected to intensify the political landscape in the constituency, as he positions himself as a strong contender for the seat. His transition from independent representative to Labour Party candidate marks not just a political shift, but what supporters see as a continuation of his mission—service to the people, above all else.

That is not news, after accepting the 30 pieces of Silver JUDAS just has to live up to his name. It is so funny these UPPites were worthless in your eyes now they are the ones you depend on to give you another 5 years. The true Labourites and Gastonites should abandon you. You have betrayed them
Smith is the best thing since sliced bread!
Thirty pieces of silver!
Happy Easter..
Top dogg and baby judas..
No shame 🫤
Snitch and buy out. I call em Judas. You ain’t winning that seat at all. It was the worst move you did to the people of this Country to both parties. We view you different dawg.
Smith damn right. Up to now UPP cannot get their shit together. How long should one stay in a situation like that with their hands tied behind their backs? Everybody a say he’s a Judas, but I know plenty of us that talking from our arm chairs would have done the same, and justify why. So he’s not human? He right. Run lef dem. Dem nah ready. ALL they do is stifle off the young up and coming representatives, so there’s no progress in the progressive party. ALL this in house fighting. We want to say Smith has no loyalty, but UPP does not even have any loyalty unto it’s ownself. Run Smith run. You right!
UPP is a mess! Why would any right thinking person want to stay in that cesspool ?
I’m not in favor of any UPP member that comes over to the Labour Party and have not swear allegiance to the party and it’s philosophy. They are just in it for selfish reasons. They are not laborites by heart. They need to be baptized. Smith is one that has not being baptized and he comes with a lot of baggage. Lucky for him he is running against UPP’s most failed politician.
As the legendary parrot 🦜 that sat on the shoulder of the one-legged pirate Long John Silver would screech:
“Pieces of Eight, Pieces of Eight…”
@Less We Forget What is the Labour Party’s Philosophy that they should swear to? I’ve never heard it articulated before. Is it different to the self enrichment that its members are notorious for? Please write an article and outline it for all of us here on ANR. It would surely get lots of views.
Ah really wonder if people realize it’s traitors such as Anthony Smith, Dwayne (windbag) George and the others before them that go ALP are the true enemies of the State. They make Benedict Arnold look like an Angel at least Benedict’s betrayal did not ruin the USA
@Capone – You got jokes.
How was he able to achieve all of this as an independent candidate????? Could you not have done the same thing under the UPP???? You will never get my vote!
