Affected Locations:
Mainly open waters on the eastern and northern sides of the islands, out to 20 nautical miles.

Timing:

  • Montserrat: Until Saturday night
  • Antigua and Barbuda: Until Sunday night
  • Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands: Until Sunday evening
  • St. Kitts and Nevis: From Saturday morning until midday

Synopsis:

Fresh to strong winds associated with a tight pressure gradient are generating a combination of wind waves and swells, resulting in hazardous seas, particularly on the eastern and northern sides of the islands. The threat level to life, livelihood, property, and infrastructure for mariners is rising to moderate, with the potential for significant impacts.

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots and/or wind waves and swells of 7 feet or greater are occurring or expected soon.

Marine Conditions:

  • Winds Over Open Waters:
    • East at 23 to 37 km/h (12 to 20 knots; 14 to 23 mph), with strong gusts up to 57 km/h (31 knots; 36 mph).
  • Seas (Significant Wave Heights):
    • 1.8 to 3.1 metres (6 to 10 feet), occasionally or locally reaching 3.7 metres (12 feet).
    • Wind waves/swells: 2.1 to 2.4 metres (7 to 8 feet), occasionally higher.
    • Dominant wind-wave period: 6 to 9 seconds.
