A long-abandoned building in central St John’s has been cleared, prompting a public thank-you from the St John’s Development Corporation (SJDC) to the property owner involved.
The SJDC described the act as a meaningful step in the ongoing effort to restore the capital, calling it “a powerful example of what happens when citizens comply and collaborate.”
“Before: an eyesore and hazard. After: a step toward a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful St John’s,” the Corporation said in a public statement.
The message, which encourages civic pride and shared responsibility, was later reposted by SJDC chairman Rawdon Turner on his social media platform. His repost helped amplify the message and urge wider public participation in the city’s clean-up efforts.
“This is what progress looks like,” the original statement read. “Every act of cleanup brings us closer to a revitalised city we can all be proud of.”
Officials are encouraging more residents and property owners to take similar steps as part of broader revitalisation efforts in St John’s, which include addressing derelict structures and improving public spaces.
“A cleaner St John’s starts with you,” Turner said.
