The fifth former is expected to take part in a Caribbean District contest on April 30th where he will compete with other students for scholarship money which can be used to assist with college financing.
Another St. Joseph’s Academy student, Uchenna Ohaegbulum took second place while Ti-ikha Edwards of the Clare Hall Secondary took third place honours.
Club President Jodie Watley says that the club was thrilled to be able to host the contest this year after an unavoidable two-year break.
She expresses appreciation to club member Nutilia Simon who chaired the planning committee along with an anonymous donor who made cash prizes to the winner and second place student possible.
The top three also received a collection of books from The Best of Books.
A special word of thanks goes out to Colin Francis, D. Giselle Isaac and Ursula Willock who gave up their Saturday morning to serve as judges.
The students all spoke on the topic: “Staying Optimistic in Challenging Times”.
