Sir Wright George Academy To Serve As Remand Lock-up

The Cabinet agreed today that people awaiting trial will no longer be remanded at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Government says this is because the Prison is full.

“Remand prisoners shall henceforth be dispatched to lock-up at the Sir Wright George Academy at Langford’s,” it was announced following the weekly Cabinet meeting.

The academy is government’s main facility for training of police officers.

For many years, the government has struggled to find new space to house convicted prisoners and people on remand.

The current facility built in 1735 hold twice the number of people than it was built to accommodate.

In addition to this human rights groups have strongly criticised “inhumane and degrading” conditions at the prison.

There are plans to build a new prison.

  1. I hope the authorities took into consideration to test those individuals who would be remanded into prison for the Covid 19 virus so upon entry they will be clean

  2. We have too damn many criminals in this country. Enforce capital punishment, hang all the killers, and that will make lots of room at 1735 for the rest. It’s that simple. A life for a life! Can anybody give us a good estimate on how many killers are current locked up at 1735, taking up much needed space.
