FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sir Richie Richardson to Serve as Commissioner of Sports
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, in consultation with Sir Richie Richardson, is pleased to announce that Sir Richie has agreed to take on the role of Commissioner of Sports. This appointment is a significant step in the Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s sporting infrastructure and enhance the development of sports in Antigua and Barbuda.
Due to Sir Richie’s ongoing commitments with the International Cricket Council (ICC), he is unable to accept a ministerial position within the Ministry of Sports at this time. However, in recognition of his profound dedication to the development of sports and his unwavering commitment to the advancement of our nation, Sir Richie has agreed to contribute his expertise and leadership as the Commissioner of Sports.
In this capacity, Sir Richie will work closely with the Ministry of Sports to spearhead initiatives aimed at fostering talent, promoting physical education, and enhancing the development of sports within the communities. His experience and international standing will undoubtedly be invaluable in guiding the strategic direction of sports in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda expresses its gratitude to Sir Richie Richardson for his continued dedication to the nation. His involvement in this critical role underscores the importance placed on the development of sports as a key element of nation-building.
We look forward to the positive impact Sir Richie’s leadership will bring to our sporting programs and the opportunities it will create for our young athletes and communities.

This is much better than the position of a puppet senator.
Congratulations Sir Richie
@ Dion Pelle: You can call Sir Rich a puppet if had become senator, but the most important thing is that within his wisdom he chose to offer his services to a ABLP and not to give a disservice to this country by associating himself with the Unprogressive People’s Party ( UPP ).
I would have preferred the ministerial role instead of this. As minister you’re the Big Boss, you will then be able to put things in place the way you see it fit to finally get our sporting program up to standard right across the board, every concept, every advancement, actually everything goes through you, the final say is always yours. As Commissioner there is still someone above you who may not see eye to eye, so progress as you vision it may still hard to come by.
I was hoping you get in there and the first thing, getting rid of the entire athletic association squad because of the poor job they being doing for years and for what they did to our under 20 athletics team. It’s all about power Richie and to turn this around you need full power, this is why I would’ve preferred the ministerial role.
All the best to Sir Richie Richardson….do the best for your country!
@ ….when will……..

@ Bluddy Joke
Word on the street is that Richie turned down the offer because he did not want to be associated with the CORRUPTION called ABLP, but then he considered the up and coming youths and decided to put an effort in by becoming the commissioner of sports: ONLY for the youths. He wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with the ABLP.
This is a fact.

I’m the first to comment on this topic but it has not been posted. I wonder why? It’s been happening quite often.
I did wonder about his commitment to all these international contracts and how those would affect his potential appointment as a senator.
I know his worth and value to the growth and value of our country in any area that he’s placed, but I’m of the view that being the Commissioner of Sports is best suited to him at this time as it would not create any conflicts of interest.
Congrats to this even-keeled giant of a man who we’re certain is committed to moving his country forward. Hip, hip, hip, hooray to Sir Richie Richardson. 🇦🇬
