The Sir Lester Bird Medical Center is on track to adopt a cutting-edge hospital information system in 2025, revolutionizing how the facility manages its administrative operations. The announcement was made by Information and Technology Minister Melford Nicholas during his 2025 budget debate contribution.
The system will integrate critical functions such as scheduling, procurement, pharmacy management, and staff coordination, marking a significant step in modernizing the delivery of healthcare services in Antigua and Barbuda.
“This is a full suite of IT products that are integrated into one platform,” Nicholas explained. “It will allow the administrators at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center to handle everything from scheduling and procurement to managing the pharmacy and regulating the shifts of all professionals working at the hospital.”
Nicholas emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology and the medical center’s staff in bringing the project to fruition. “The Ministry is happy to work alongside the staff from the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center to make this hospital information system a reality in 2025,” he said.
The minister outlined the benefits of the new system, highlighting how it would improve efficiency, accuracy, and patient care. By streamlining administrative processes, the hospital can allocate resources more effectively and ensure a higher standard of service.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader push for digital transformation across various sectors, including healthcare. It represents a commitment to leveraging technology to address longstanding administrative challenges and meet the needs of the public.
The system’s implementation is expected to be completed within the year, setting a new benchmark for healthcare administration in Antigua and Barbuda.
