The Bill which proposes to change the ABST from 15% to 17% is among the three. An amendment to the “sin taxes” on alcohol and tobacco and gaming, will also be introduced.

There will also be a small increase in airport taxes to reflect the revenue requirement to meet the obligations of operating the airport.

the departure tax is included in your ticket price….so when you purchase your ticket it is one of the many government taxes that are hidden there

  1. AIRPORT TAX YOU SAY!!!! Yet our ministers trips all up and down the place questioning why intraregional travel is so costly. Oh my!!!!

  2. I just learned something new today. I’m never to young nor old to learn, become educated and gain more knowledge.
    “…sin tax!”😆😆🤭😎😎
Now, let me get this straight, an earthly god given to HUEmans as a BRAND which you follow, promote, market and sell, already made the decision as to which sins are to be taxed, and their henchmen also known as politicians decide how much, one should be charged per “sin.”
OK! The government now allows these “sins” to take place legally, so that they can tax you via, a “sin tax.” Besides that, the government allows the church to tax you as well, and let the indoctrinated be charged a tax, called a “tithe.”

So, if sins have being made legal and are taxed, why stop at alcohol and tobacco as sinful things which can be taxed. Can you add fornication, adultery, fallatio, bbl in Lycra, gender identity, fake hair/nails, LQGBTP+ tax, Obeah, lying, stealing; since, according to several of the #RELIGIOUS_BRANDS which are very popular in the Culture says, these are also #sins?

    😎😂😆…a “sin tax!”

  3. Seems like this administration wants to tax us out of everything we have including the meager salary we are taking home. In his previous slogan the PM did say there would be “more jobs, more investments and less taxes”. Maybe because that wasn’t his slogan this last election season he has used that to sanction to tax us to eternity! Parliamentarians will never feel the squeeze of the working class! WICKED SET AH PEOPLE!

  4. Those at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder will be hurt worst by consumption taxes. Someone or something like this news service needs to educate the common man about what is happening to them. I’m almost as disappointed by the Antiguan news services lack of investigative reporting as the current Antiguan Prime Minister.

  5. Locals wages are stagnant.
People do not have a money tree in their yard.
People will spend less if at all on non-essentials as this government taxing JOY & HAPPINESS OUT of Antiguan and Barbudian lives.

We the people will be interested to see what transparency and public accounting the Minister of Finance offers regarding waivers for himself, investors, certain operating businesses, ministers, green ‘public servant’ passport holders, friends & family.

Careful of the economy, powerhouse peoples.
Prices already rising almost weekly and 15% ABST should be received on much of that.

PM & Minister Max say tourism booming.
Tour Ops & Tourists still very $ conscious and under every tightening finances at their home country.
Wars happening, Panama Canal on reduced traffic passages = inevitable price increases.

Airlift increasing to many regional destinations at present, piquing interest from travellers.
Tickets to/from Antigua already expensive, and taxes/fees often more than airfare.
Food, tours, shopping & activities already a fair to high price comparatively. All attract ABST.

Don’t kill the Golden Goose! we don’t have an alternative economy, and tourism is a fickle business.
