J. Valerie Hodge, Managing Director of the popular Shirley Heights Lookout, believes that “bad mind” and the desire to see her business fail are among the reasons that “Reggae in the Park” has been withdrawn from her venue. CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP

The much looked-forward-to event – staged by the Antigua Sailing Week Committee – was scheduled to be held, this year, at Shirley Heights, with headline act Tian Winter commemorating its return after a two-year hiatus.

However, reports say that a Government Minister advised the organisers that the venue would not be big enough to accommodate the hundreds expected to attend, since interest in the event was building.

Reportedly, the Minister also solicited the Government’s help in bringing in an international artiste for the event: Jamaican Romain Virgo.

Therefore, the Committee opted to return the event to Nelson’s Dockyard, which reportedly has a capacity of up to 5,000 people.

This decision has sparked some controversy and reportedly has caused some embarrassment to Winter, who was yanked from the headline spot.

Hodge, on the other hand, learned of the changes by chance. CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP

Hodge says she was proud, initially, to see the entertainment line-up featuring local artistes.  Accordingly, she is now disappointed that an international performer is being brought in to make the kind of money that locals would never be offered.

The businesswoman says she is curious about the source of Virgo’s payment, since many public servants have been striking for monies owed to them and Social Security pensioners are not being paid on time.

Meanwhile, Hodge says she will not be deterred by this set-back, since she trusts and believes in God. — REAL News

  1. Woman shut up… Tian could’ve still perform at the show, even tho Virgo in the line up… Mf hating as if it’s only Locals live in Antigua.. Also the last time Shaggy perform at your venue a lot of ppl got injured because of the terrain

  2. What pensioners cant pay have to do with a event and overseas artist coming to perform. Do realize that is people from all over the world involved in sailing week, i see nothing wrong in bringing other flavors of music to the event, the should have Rhianna to as far as i concerned, argument by tian sounds so jokey and maybe if he is to ever get a opportunity in Jamaica to perform they should reject him. My advice to tian continue to work on your craft build yourself as an artist so you to can be call out on the international stage in some other country flying Antigua 🇦🇬 flag dont be so low minded you will not reach no where with this type of thinking, what should do is to discuss a collaboration with virgo and continue to grow, did you produce any music in covid, do you only produce music at carnival time in Antigua think about it. Miss Hodge we done know you are a big opposition you and family Bobby Hodge all are you so bringing you politics in to this you be shame because Antigua people from all political sides support you. Are you now saying you running a UPP business.

    • Hw can you say the man recounting what happened is jokey?? AND WHY SHOULD HE BE REJECTED IF HE GOES TO JA TO PERFORM??? Did he speak out against the artiste OR did he speak on the haphazard way the Sailing week committee went about this?? Old people say when people na love you they give u basket to carry water because your entire discourse became a bash against an Artiste who is in his right to defend his name. ASW committee DROPPED THE BALL with this entire thing from venue to headliner. Just left the Winter Man name out ya bloody mouth and READ TO COMPREHEND NOT RESPOND. Sick of some ah areyou
