A postmortem examination was reportedly carried out on the body of escaped prisoner Shanell Thomas… today to ascertain the cause of death.
Performing the examination was pathologist Dr. Petra Miller-Nanton.
Sources close to the Police investigation inform that the pathologist determined that the deceased died of gunshot injuries to the upper body-chest and abdomen.
An inquest is expected to be held to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.
No date has been set by the Coroner.
BACKGROUND:
Escaped prisoner Shanell Thomas was reportedly killed in a police operation last night (FEB 9.)
Police said Thomas, 34, escaped the prison farm at Diamonds Estate at around midday on Tuesday.
They later described the fugitive as armed and dangerous after he evaded officers during an exchange of gunfire in New Winthorpes the following day.
According to a police release at the time, officers tried to apprehend him when they saw him in a car, but he emerged with what appeared to be a firearm and attempted to engage the officers.
According to reports, Thomas was shot and killed following another encounter with the security forces in Cassada Gardens Wednesday night.
