SFCG Announces Speaker Lineup and Agenda for YOLO 2023 Summit
The conference will highlight the connection between money and culture as an “outside the box” learning template
SamuelFields Consulting Group (SFCG), a community e-learning partner that specializes in financial education has announced the agenda and slate of speakers for its second Youth Opportunities, Lessons and Outcomes (YOLO) Summit. SFCG will partner with Pockets Change, a US based award-winning group of finance educators to stage this conference under the theme “Find Your Financial Rhythm.” This free in-person event will focus on how the youth can build a more secure financial future through conversations, inspiration, and action. It is open to youth ages 15 – 35 and will be held on September 23 & 24th at Julee’s Sweet Spot at the corner of Cross & Tanner Streets.
The YOLO Summit will utilize an innovative approach to finance using music as a learning tool to address a range of money-related topics. A team of local and international finance education experts and youth influencers will share insights and lead important discussions about how the youth can set financial goals that will advance their careers or support their entrepreneurial pursuits.
“We must ensure that the next generation is equipped with the tools to navigate their financial future and that comes with having a foundation in financial literacy. It’s about having the knowledge to make good financial decisions. Attendees will learn about the best ways to earn income and improve savings, credit, debt, budgeting, spending, and investing. Without financial literacy, many young people struggle as they enter their adult lives,” said Megan Samuel-Fields, CEO of SamuelFields Consulting Group (SFCG).
The YOLO Summit will feature a group of innovators who will participate in a series of workshops and roundtables and address a range of topics affecting the youth. The speaker line-up will include:
- Keynote speaker, Brian “Dyalekt” Kushner, co-founder of Pockets Change. He is an internationally acclaimed award-winning speaker and finance educator, hip hop MC and composer, who hails from St. Croix.
- Inspirational Speaker, Keisha Schaff, Virgin Galactic Astronaut 012, the first Caribbean woman to travel to space.
- Renee Edwards-Ambrose, Founder of Lady Mex Workshop, former race car driver and engineering professional
- Rushaine Cunningham, a lawyerpreneur who is licensed to practice law in six Caribbean islands.
- Humroy Wright of H. Wright Promotions, entrepreneur and brand influencer,
On Saturday September 23rd, following the Opening Ceremony, there will be several immersive financial education sessions. Hot topics include:
- The Impact of Social Media on the Youth’s Wants, Needs and Spending Habits
- Finding Your Rhythm with a Side Hustle and Making it Your Full-Time Job or Career
- Financial Psychology: How to Manage Your Emotions When Making Money Decisions
On Sunday, there will be a YOLO Treasure Hunt around St. John’s to solve some business problems. Teams of 2 or more persons will work together to improve their communication and problem-solving skills. Participants will embark on an exploratory learning exercise to collect clues and complete challenges about the Five Money Musts. The winning team will receive cash and prizes.
The conference will end with The Money Jam, a concert featuring live performances by the youth. Participants will create “rhythms and rhymes” to deliver strong messages about key financial lessons. Winners will be selected by a panel of local judges and win cash prizes. They will also have an opportunity to participate in FinFe$t 2024, an annual finance education competition held in the US, which is co-sponsored by Pockets Change. All attendees will receive an eBadge of Achievement to certify their participation in the YOLO Summit.
As a finance educator, Dyalekt has received numerous awards for his innovative learning method that helps the youth channel their passion for music, culture and the arts into powerful financial tools. “The Money Jam will help participants inspire each other to make better financial choices. They will share their money experiences by combining spoken word, music, dance, art, and other forms of self-expression to create songs and deliver performances based on financial concepts that have motivated their actions. Culture is a unifying topic that can have a tremendous impact on individual and household financial decisions. The way we use money is a representation of our values and these financial conversations create opportunities to fully engage the youth on the topic of money and how they can make it work for them.
