Seventh-day Adventist Church opposes same sex marriages

The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church says it does not support same sex marriage and that it “believes and teaches that sexual intimacy should be in the context of a monogamous heterosexual martial relationship”.

In a newspaper advertisement here, the SDA of the South Caribbean Conference said that such a marriage should be “between a genetic male and a genetic female.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church believes further that all people, regardless of gender, race and sexual orientation, are God’s children and as such should be treated with civility, compassion and Christ-like love”.

sexSame-sex marriage has become legal in 26 nations since the Netherlands led the way in 2001. Austria and Taiwan are set to join this list following court rulings on the matter in 2017.

The issue has been an issue that several Caribbean countries have to deal with in recent years with Bermuda Governor John Rankin recently signing legislation replacing same-sex marriage.

Home Affairs Minister Walton Brown said a referendum had proven that most Bermudians don’t want same-sex marriage, which briefly became the law in Bermuda through a Supreme Court ruling last May. The Bermuda Senate approved the domestic partnerships act last December.

In its advertisement, the SDA said it believes that ‘sexual intimacy belongs only within the martial relationship of a man and a woman.

“This was the design established by God at creation,” it said, adding that the “Bible makes no accommodation for homosexual activity or relationships”.

The SDA said that as a disciple of Jesus Christ it endeavours ‘to follow the Lord’s instruction and example, living a life of Christ-like compassion and fruitfulness”.

  2. MeTho you are right people should be able to live like they want.
That being said Just Don’t Call It Marriage .
you might blame the paper for martial

  3. At MeTho: The SDA have a right to state their doctrines as everyone else have a right to their opinion. I do not know if most Bermudans are SDAs, but as members of a society and citizens of country, they have every right to state their positions on any social issue.
It is funny that those who support same sex marriage in the name of tolerance or so intolerant to those who do not share their views.
