REAL NEWS: An elderly couple is moving back into their own home following major renovations undertaken on their property, thanks to the efforts of Senator Johnathan Joseph, the United Progressive Party (UPP) caretaker for St. Mary’s North.
Mackenzie and Cavelle Sealey of Cashew Hill were gifted the renovated house in a handover ceremony on Monday, November 6.
In his address, Senator Joseph revealed that the Sealeys’ home renovation had been one of four constituency projects he recommended to the Ministry of Social Transformation for
assistance from the HAPPI Programme.
However, he hinted that political discrimination had led to three of the four applications being approved, while that of the Sealeys – who are known supporters of the UPP – was rejected.
With the snub from the government authorities, Senator Joseph and his team embarked on making the renovation project a reality, at a cost of over $80,000.
Accordingly, he thanked the various businesses and individuals who contributed to the exercise.
Also speaking at the ceremony was UPP General-Secretary Senator Shawn Nicholas, who congratulated Senator Joseph for beating the odds to meet the needs of his constituents.
Senator Nicholas referenced the just-concluded by-election campaign in St. Mary’s South, during which Prime Minister Gaston Browne repeatedly claimed that Opposition Members of Parliament cannot provide assistance to their constituents.
She pointed to the successfully completed home-renovation project as a testament that, with partnership, UPP parliamentarians can, indeed, meet the needs of those they serve.
Meanwhile, an appreciative Cavelle Sealey spoke on behalf of her husband and thanked Senator Joseph and his crew for their thoughtful gesture and for ensuring they can now enjoy life in the comfort of their own home.
The end product is a new house with complete electrical re-wiring.

Didn’t Senator Nicholas say who made that statement? Just imagine: we are in 2023 AD and three out of four projects were approved and one not. I wonder which party the owners of the other three supported? I hate to say it but must: Antigua stinks politically. There you have it.
