Missing Fishermen

The Antigua and Barbuda Coast Guard has called off the search for three fishermen who disappeared at sea nearly a month ago, following an extensive multi-island operation, authorities said.

Devon Prince, Adrian Price and Carlton Pitt left Urlings on a fishing trip on March 11 and never returned. Search efforts spanned waters near Martinique, Guadeloupe, and St. Kitts and Nevis, but only an engine cover and a cooler were recovered.

Officials said the decision to suspend the search was made in coordination with regional partners, amid fears the vessel may have submerged.

Despite the development, some relatives continue to hold out hope. The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force expressed condolences to the families as the community awaits answers.

  1. What a pity. We need to demand that fisher folks have better seaworthy vessels when they go on the open sea to fish.
Not everyone that has a little boat should be allowed to go on the open sea. And the vessels should be equipped with the latest communication systems and GPS so that they can always be located. The Coast Guard also needs to be equipped with drones so that they can scan the entire coast and see which vessel is where. And our radar system needs to be able to see every and any ship in our waters.
Those guys go out there to make a living, To bring fresh fish for us to eat. We should not hear these sad stories again and brush it off as if we don’t care.
Next time you eat a nice fish from our sea, remember them at every bite you take.

  2. This entire story broke me into small pieces. I understand that this woman loved her partner and did not want to to let go but the possibiities of them being alive is very slim. Let go . He wont come back and we are sorry for your loss. All of you.

  3. Life on sea isn’t easy especially now as trump is in our waters playing God. But with all honesty where could they possibly be if not dead. It’s time to let you wound heal.

  4. This is extremely sad and regrettable and should be a wake up call for our fisherfolks. They can no longer go out to sea without the necessary safety mechanisms in place. All fishing vessels should be licensed and equipped with satellite Emergency positions indicating radios. Such radios and equipment allows rescue services to locate boats during emergency. All fisherfolks need a working VHF radio for communication in emergencies. This is 3 gone at one go and these are somebody’s sons, fathers, brother, uncles, nephews cousins and more. We must ensure that nothing like this is ever repeated.

  5. My brothe:, Adrian Ivan Pryce;Your family is n ambiguous pain. I know that it is normal to replay every scenario in one’s head. It is the brain’s way of trying to solve a problem that feels unsolvable. I have an anchor; Jehovah God and His son, Jesus Christ. I have hope.

I think about the potential factors ; current and drifting, quick swamping, mechanical failure the engine cover, and visibility and condition. However, I did my own research and found people missing at sea returned back home.

I love the support that t I see on the media platforms; prayers and assisting in the search. Thank you for your prayers and supports. I love my paternal community; Urlings Village., Antigua.. A. tight-knit community .Hold on to Jehovah God unchanging hand. I will continue to pray for you.

To the families of the three fishermen missing at sea I truly understand your pain. Lean on each other. Hold on to your faith. Continue to cry out to Jehovah God and do not stop praying.
