School Uniform Programme reopens for outstanding vouchers

Organizers of the School Uniform Grant Programme have announced a re-opening of the 2021 programme to facilitate the redeeming of outstanding vouchers.

The programme, which commenced on 5th July, 2021, ended on 27th August. However, there are reports many beneficiaries did not trade in their vouchers to vendors in exchange for school uniforms.

SUGP Supervisor Tanesha McKenzie –James said considering the circumstances, a decision has been made to re-open the 2021 programme to facilitate the process.

“The officials from the Ministry of Education have agreed to extend the period for redeeming the vouchers that parents would have in their possession until 30th November, 2021. We have contacted all our vendors. They have been notified of the extension, so therefore parents and guardians with vouchers they have not redeemed can go to select vendors to collect the school uniform.”

Mckenzie-James emphasized this extension to the 2021 SUGP is not for those who may have missed the opportunity this year, neither is it for those wishing to join the programme.

The School Uniform Grant Programme was introduced 16 years ago by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and continues to be one of the largest social programmes in the country.

  1. So you’re saying that you cannot give the children who now need uniforms this relief? Are you then saying that after the last set of vouchers have been redeemed, the programme will close? Talk straight so parents will know if they have to put aside money to buy uniforms for their children.
And BTW, the large fun contingents you have in Dubai and Expo. Stop fooling us about who is paying for them. While there is some host costs, we too have to fork out good cash for their maintenance.
These things are what are priorities in this present administration. To hell with funding school uniforms. To hell with paying pensions. To hell with poor people.
    This country is broken, dysfunctional.
