School Hair Policies Remain Unchanged in Face of Regional Revisions

As neighboring Caribbean nations evolve their stance on student hair policies, Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Education has chosen to uphold its existing guidelines outlined in the 2008 Education Act.

Despite the recent shifts towards greater hair freedom for students of African descent in some countries, Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Education has decided to maintain the status quo.

The Ministry encourages individual schools to establish their own rules within the existing framework, emphasizing factors like cleanliness and attire while discouraging discrimination.

Unlike other Caribbean nations, which are revising their Education Acts to embrace natural hair styles, Antigua and Barbuda is sticking with its current approach.
