Scholarship Opportunities for Antiguan and Barbudan Nationals

Antiguan and Barbudan nationals can benefit from a range of scholarship opportunities funded  by the Commonwealth, and the governments of India and the Republic of Ireland. Please see  the details below. 

 

Scholarships for Indian Training Courses.  

Scholarships to short online, e-ITEC courses are being offered to eligible nominees from  Antigua and Barbuda to pursue tertiary education in a range of disciplines offered by the  Government of India’s Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme.

The courses are all  available and conducted online via the government of India’s Technical and Economic  Cooperation Programme website www.itecgoi.in.

They are offered to public sector workers  employed by the various government ministries in Antigua and Barbuda.

Each ministry is  advised to visit the ITEC website for updates regarding courses for the academic year 2023- 2024 and to disseminate it to their staff accordingly.

The entire cost of the training courses under the regular  ITEC scheme is borne by the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs.

The  completed application, duly signed by the nominated Ministry, may be sent to the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs, Trade, Agriculture and Barbuda Affairs for onward submission to the High  Commission of India ideally three months before the commencement of the selected course. 

Civil servants in the age group 25 – 45 years are actively encouraged to apply.  

Commonwealth and Intel Scholarships 

The Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel have jointly launched a digital learning platform to  enable public sector officials in 56 countries to understand and harness emerging technologies  to achieve development goals.

The online digital training course aims to demystify artificial  intelligence among senior officials across the Commonwealth and raise awareness of its  potential applications in various sectors, in view of the current needs and digital readiness of  respective countries. 

The Self-paced course contains use-case examples, international best practices and frameworks  that will also allow learners to develop strategies, scalable solutions and actions plans for digital  transformation in their communities.

It covers topics such as digital governance, technology,  infrastructure and inclusivity.  

The course is hosted on the Commonwealth’s e-learning platform.

To enrol in the course,  participants may register themselves on this platform and enrolling the Digital Readiness for  Public Sector Leaders Course.

Users must ensure that they have enabled the pop-up window  for this website.

The course is self-paced and features topics such as the Global Scenario and  AI, Emerging Technologies, Digital Readiness and Bringing Digital Transformation through  government, technology, data and infrastructure.

At the end of the course, participants will get  a certificate of completion from the Commonwealth and Intel.  

The Commonwealth Partnership with Simplilearn 

The Commonwealth Secretariat in partnership with global digital skills provider Simplilearn  released over 2000 free e-learning courses to young learners in Antigua and Barbuda and the  Caribbean.

This will give them access to the digital economy skills. In total, the partnership  will see over 10,000 course places, worth $5 million made available to young people in  Commonwealth Countries throughout 2023.  

The online training, developed in conjunction with leading industry experts from IBM,  Microsoft, Meta and others includes courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data  science cyber security, and software development.

Each learner will receive a certificate upon  the completion of the course.  

Two – hundred Simplilearn course slots have been given to learners in Antigua and Barbuda,  Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St.  Vincent and The Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago for a total of 2,200 across the Caribbean. 

The courses aim to equip learners with the skills needed to excel in an increasingly digital  focused and interconnected labour market, or as entrepreneurs able to interact with the global  digital economy.

The partnership was announced at the Commonwealth Heads of Government  Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda in June and forms part of the Commonwealth  Secretariat’s work on supporting member countries innovation ambitions and the accessing of  affordable digital infrastructure to narrow the digital divide.  

Ireland Fellowship Programme for SIDS 

The Ireland Fellows Programme enables early to mid-career professionals from eligible  countries to benefit from a prestigious, world-class, quality education contributing to capacity  building.

The Programme offers selected students the opportunity to undertake a fully funded  one-year master’s level programme at a higher education institution (HEI) in Ireland.

The  award covers programme fees, flights, accommodation and living costs.  

Eligible master’s level programmes are listed in a Directory when applications open and are in  a wide range of areas such as environmental leadership; food security; marine management;  engineering; science and technology; development studies; international relations; law; human  rights; gender and equality; health; education; information systems; social policy; and business.  Programmes in Ireland commence in August or September each year and, depending on the  programme, will run for between 10 and 16 months. 

The Ireland Fellows Programme is fully funded by the Irish Government and is offered under  the auspices of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).  

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s level academic qualification with a minimum grade point  average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) awarded within the last 12 years, and should not already hold a  qualification at master’s level or higher.

Potential applicants will require a satisfactory level of  English which will be verified by English language testing.
