Observer Media — The country’s ambassador to the US is in discussion with stateside authorities regarding the case of a Barbuda Council member who was arrested after apparently assaulting several police officers.

Four cops were said to be escorting Kendra Beazer from a hotel to a mental health evaluation when the incident unfolded on Sunday night.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne told Observer that Sir Ronald Sanders was in touch with “various state agencies”.

“This is to ensure that Kendra’s legal and constitutional rights are not violated and also to ensure that he gets the necessary protection as someone who may have suffered a mental breakdown,” Browne confirmed.

The 28-year-old Lehigh University graduate student, who is on a Fulbright scholarship, was reportedly acting erratically on Sunday night in a Pennsylvania hotel.

Court papers say he assaulted three police officers and a sergeant who were subsequently taking him for the voluntary mental health evaluation.

Beazer was arraigned early Monday before a district judge on charges of aggravated assault, disarming a law enforcement officer, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, simple assault and harassment.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that there was no love lost between himself and Beazer but added that mental health was a sensitive subject.

“He spared no effort to call me crazy and to curse my mentally ill mother but then again, as I say, you don’t know how you’ll end up and that is why we have to be very respectful of each other and especially those who are mentally ill – or anyone who has any illness whatsoever. We should not use their illness to disrespect them,” Browne added.

A spokesman for the Barbuda Council told Observer yesterday the body had no comment to make until members had received further details of the incident.

  1. Whapm you too far from you mammy fckin guinep tree over dey ? Once again another Barbuda politician embarrasses the nation. Go tek aryu #Barexit

  2. This is getting very interesting, since there are many components to these latest ‘developments’ regarding this individual who apparently is an outstanding citizen, from several reports scholastic achievements, accolades, the works down to the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship!

I didn’t google #Fulbrite for spell check, nor whatever they’re involved in. So, #Speculation could be the mud on my face, hardened to look like a #jacazz, or maybe #jabless or #ObeahMan!

    Questions…
1…why would Police be escorting him Beaser to a Mental Evaluation, and not trusting him to show up on his own?
2…He wrote a piece regarding the Environment, and if I’m not mistaken, it wasn’t appreciated nor accepted in some #Diplomatic Quarters, therefore, is he being Sympathetically targeted, by the very #System which recruited, molded and is still molding him, for elimination?
3…Don’t pretend here #Diplomats many of you are fully aware, to be beware of the doors opened and entered in the catacombs of the #Core, the rules sworn to which must be upheld, otherwise the consequences are deadly #Mentally and or #Physically?

4…why is he being medicated (yes, HIPAA Rules applies but so too should good journalism, as they present a story of this magnitude), again, medication for anything as in alleged #MentalIssues, has many prongs to it. Was he ever on any form of treatment prior, as in Barbuda/Antigua?

There is a history some place in this story, drama, debacle. A John Ashe, I hope it’s not.

  3. I can tell you that the police account of the incident probably does not resemble what actually happened in any way.

They are trained to lie. The cameras and witnesses will undoubtedly tell a very different story than the police narrative.

Also American police love to make it sound like black men have superhuman strength. That should be another clue that their description of events is false.

  4. Hopefully there are no drugs involved. Not saying there is, but just hoping there isn’t. What next? If it is a mental health issues, that will be determined by those who know about such things.

  5. I’m sorry for the young man but this goes to show you don’t make fun of people with nental health issuses. He while he was running for political office he constanly made fun of the PM’s mother who suffers from mental illness and has been calling the PM crazy now look at this mess. I pary he gets the help he needs.

  6. I pray and hope that he makes a full recovery.

In the meantime, let this be a lesson to be careful about what we say about other people. Kendra has made jokes about people with mental illness on Facebook. Be careful be careful be careful Kendra.
