Sandals Resorts statement: In the public interest

4

(PRESS RELEASE)

It is in the public interest for goods and services, employment opportunities and matters of economic trade to be conducted freely and fairly throughout the Caribbean region.

It is in the interest of all Caribbean people to attract and retain meaningful financial investment, particularly in the tourism sector – our undisputed GDP leader, as we seek to elevate our position within the global economy.

And it is our duty as Caribbean citizens to transform the bounty of tourism into opportunity, not only for the many industries such as farming, that support its expansion but most importantly, in preparation of the next generation of Caribbean people who require and deserve access to quality education and training.
These are the real matters of interest to the public and the steadfast commitment of Sandals Resorts International since the company’s founding over thirty-five years ago.

Recently, our pledge to live up to these interests has been called into question. Nothing could be further from the truth. As a Caribbean company operating exclusively in the region, Sandals shares the values, the traditions and the journey of so many our brothers and sisters. We know what it is to begin with very little, to be underestimated and to work hard.

And like all contributing members of the Caribbean community we are a part of, we honor our commitments. We pay our taxes. We invest and re-invest, deeply, in the region and in our people.

We know that great things happen when government and private sector partner and so we seek and celebrate those opportunities.

Rhetoric and politics, like the seasons, change. At Sandals, we prefer to take the long view and believe that steady and stable leadership, focused on facts, is the only way to build the trust and confidence investors require to do business here. We think you think so too.

  1. SANDALS behaving really childish and stupid. This is bad for business and bad for your brand. Shut the H up and “renovate/upgrade” your hotel like you said you would. Employees need to survive and maintain their lives.

What makes you think you are so special that you don’t have to pay in your ABST to the government just like to the common man does when he goes to the supermarket?

    • And how much do you re-invest in your community ‘common man’?
You employ hundreds of workers? You pay millions in bills? You invest millions in structural development?
You cannot compare a major investor with the ‘common man’.
      Ignorant, silly, foolish and myopic.
Why don’t you ask why nearly everything in Antigua is double what it is in the other islands. Take ABST and dance on it!

  2. So what really is Sandals Problems? What is the point of all this drama and self glory? You are conducting a business like all else, the same stick that lick other’s is the same that will lick you. This isn’t a blooming plantation. Just a little reminder

  3. They need to pay their bills and taxes. For years we antiguans work at sandals our labour is our contribution..How many leading honeymoon awards have they won for sandals in antigua..we help gain that award. They need us as we need them.. People stop playing politics and unions. They must pay this is not Jamaica where they runs things. No locals can set foot on Sandals Montego Bay beach.
