Sandals Grande Antigua resort has been commended by the Principal, staff and students of the Villa Primary School, for the outstanding work it has been doing to partner with and provide support for the school.

Sandals was among a number of groups and individuals, including Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who were presented with Certificates of Appreciation recently, as the school said thanks to those who have contributed to it over the years.

“Every time we call on Sandals they are always there to help. All the children here know Sandals and what they do for us…we could never repay you for what you do for us but today we want to say thank you in our small way. When you assist us, know that you are developing a child,” Principal Sandra Felix said at the Appreciation Day ceremony.

Villa Primary is located in the St. John’s City West constituency which is represented by Prime Minister Browne, himself a former student, and who was on hand to witness the presentation of the appreciation award for the work being done by Sandals and others to help the school.

Every year Villa Primary receives donations of Christmas toys from the Sandals Foundation. Sandals has also built a playground for the school, and has donated scholastic reading books to the library for past two consecutive years. Villa Primary also benefits from the unique Sandals Reading Road Trip project, which allows visitors to interact and read with the students every week. The students have also been able to visit the hotel to view and learn about projects such as the waste recycle plant, and the importance of environmental awareness.

General Manager of Sandals Grande Antigua Gaurav ‘Mr. G’ Sindhi joined Public Relations Manager Kyle Christian and Training and Development Manager Matara Murphy in collecting the award. Mr. Sindhi thanked both the school, as well as the other individuals and groups who have supported them.

“Sandals has had a long and ongoing relationship with Villa Primary because of our close proximity. We will continue to work with the school, its teachers and Principal who are committed to educating the students, and who don’t always have all the support they need to get or deliver a great education. Where we can step in and assist we are happy to do so, and of course we are even more pleased that Sandals Grande Antigua resort has been commended by the Principal, staff and students of the Villa Primary School, for the outstanding work it has been doing to partner with and provide support for the school.

Public Relations Manager Kyle Christian and Training Manager Matara Murphy, both Antiguans, said they are well aware of the challenges faced by schools and students on the island, and were only too pleased to be able to show the staff and students of Villa Primary the world-famous Sandals hospitality.

According to Christian, “As someone who works directly with the school and the children, it gives me great pride to give back to them. When we start our reading programme in September, we can see the growth in the Kindergarten students by the end of the school year the next June. The teachers do a great job with little Resources and I am happy to be able to allocate some resources for their use.”
