The Sandals Foundation has partnered with the Rotary Club of Antigua to help celebrate its love for Caribbean families by helping some of the most vulnerable meet their needs.
Over the weekend, the local non-profit organization was the recipient of financial donation from the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International to aid the Rotary’s annual Christmas program ’Meals on Wheels’.
Meals on Wheels is a community outreach project that focuses on providing food packages to less fortunate families across the country.
In line with a wider holiday outreach programme of the Sandals Foundation, titled, “We’re Here For You” the SRI philanthropic arm has aided the Rotary Club to reach over 250 families this year.
Sandals Foundation Executive Director, Heidi Clarke said, “It’s all about celebrating the Caribbean family with a spirit of gratitude and love. We are honored to collaborate with the Rotary Club of Antigua to reach more families and expand the circle of hope. This has been a tough year for families right across the world, as for us as a Caribbean organization, it was important for us to help as many individuals and families as we can in this place we call home.”
On hand to receive the cheque donation from Sandals Foundation Ambassador, Leon Norville was the Rotary Club’s 2021 President, Joanna Spencer.
“Being able to assist people in the community especially at this time of the year means a lot to us as members. For many families, they have had to struggle throughout the year, especially in the face of a pandemic and job losses to make ends meet and if we can play a part during this Christmas season to provide them with groceries for the holidays it means we are fulfilling our theme for this year, “Serving to Change Lives.” The Rotary Club of Antigua and its members are very appreciative of the contribution from the Sandals Foundation and looks forward to future collaborations, she said.
Care package of groceries and hot meals are also being distributed by the Sandals Foundation to vulnerable families in other islands with the support of local partners on the ground.
