Press Release from Samantha Marshal — In the spirit of open democracy and a commitment to serving the constituents of St Mary’s South, I, Samantha Marshall, representing the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), hereby challenge Kelvin Simon from the United Progressive Party (UPP) to a public debate.
This debate aims to provide an opportunity for us to share and outline our plans and programs for the constituents, fostering transparency and enabling voters to make an informed decision.
Recent developments in the political landscape of Antigua and Barbuda have highlighted the importance of open discussions and the role of the people as trustees of the Constitution.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sir Gerald Watt KC, who previously led a public debate regarding Mr Simon’s inability to resign, has now changed his position, which may trigger the possibility of a by-election.
This realisation serves as a valuable lesson for all, especially the Speaker, emphasising the need for thorough consideration of the law and matters at hand before leading public debates.
Given the potential by-election, albeit subject to the outcome of the petition before the High Court, it is crucial that both Mr Simon and I allow the people to hear, examine, and question our records and plans for the constituency of St Mary’s South.
This public debate will provide a platform for constituents to engage directly with us, understand our visions, and assess our capabilities.
We propose that this significant event be organised by the National Youth Parliament Association of Antigua and Barbuda, a representative body comprising youth across the political divide.
The involvement of our young citizens is vital as they represent the future and need to understand the issues affecting our constituency and nation.
Moreover, we believe that conducting the debate in St Mary’s South will facilitate maximum participation from a cross-section of the constituency.
By bringing the discussion directly to the constituents, we demonstrate our commitment to serving their interests and fostering a sense of inclusivity.
Therefore, let us present ourselves before the constituents, answer their questions, and provide them with a clear understanding of our plans and programs.
Together, we can honour the values of democracy while showing our competence to serve, ensuring a brighter future for St Mary’s South.

Is Smantha an actress in desperate housewives? Shugy my advise to you ignore the desperate woman and continue bonding with your people. Shugy for St. Mary’s South. VOTE KELVIN SIMON!
A VOTE FOR SMANTHA IS A VOTE FOR DICTATOR GASTON.
Kelvin Simon, you have nothing to prove to Samantha Marshall and labour party.
It is obvious that her 9 years are seen as failure in the eyes of the majority of the constituents.
Samantha looking prominence and prop up.
Ignore her and keep talking to your supporters.
Don’t bother with her Shuggy (she’s utterly desperate now); Samantha Marshall knows she’s lost, after the MISGUIDED intervention of Sir Gerald Watt’s.
Shuggy, you’d be better off sending a cardboard cut-out of yourself – and you’ll still hold on to St Mary’s South. Comfortably!
Careful though, your Honourable Mr Kelvin Simon, ABLP are political TRICKSTERS and have had a few days to come up with something out of the ordinary.
Oh, by the way Sir Gerald Watt, here’s some good advice for you in the future:
If you want to avoid being PREVENTED by judges from breaking the law – then DON’T break the law!
SIMPLE REALLY!
I would not fall for such bull-chit.Debate my rear, what have you done for that Constituency in the past 9 years. He beat you at the Voting Stations on 18th January,2023. This time around you would be beaten again, worserer than the last. You are too lazy to be lazy. This would be your Waterloo,Marshall.
No thank you
UPP not interested in raising your profile.
Beat he send Pringle
You are worth more than that. You should get paid even if you didn’t comment.
wa Pringle smh he’s is another waste of space, just boast, nuff and full of shit!!
Best he send Pringle
Shuggy DO NOT DEBATE HER:
THE UNDERDOG WILL ALWAYS WANT A DEBATE HOPING TO LAND A BLOW TO THE PARTY WITH THE MOMENTUM.
NAR DEBATE SHE
I’m afraid Samantha Marshall has not learned from her recent experiences.
After neglecting the Constituency, She writes: “In the spirit of open democracy and a commitment to serving the constituents of St Mary’s South”
My question: Wasn’t she the previous Representative? Is she asking for a debate as a commitment to serving the constituents? Am I misreading this? A debate will demonstrate a commitment to serving the Constituents of St. Mary’s South.
I would have thought constituency representation would be about leadership and advocacy on behalf of the St. Mary’s South. Leadership in getting the ABLP apparatus in delivering municipal for the people of the constituency, and protecting the livelihoods of the hardworking people. Leadership in ensuring foreigners don’t destroy the St Mary’s South peoples way of life and livelihood.
Samantha should be running on her record, not a debate where she is coached to take cheap shots of her opponent.
It’s unfortunate that the political system is such that the winner takes the spoils, and an individual Member of Parliament is held accountable for his or her constituency. Her balance sheet looks thin.
She further writes: This debate aims to provide an opportunity for us to share and outline our plans and programs for the constituents, fostering transparency and enabling voters to make an informed decision.
Samantha even took the time to write: I, Samantha Marshall, representing the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), THA
This is embarrassing at least for me. The ABLP is the governing party. Marshall and the ABLP
are the entities responsible.
Kelvin Simon from the United Progressive Party (UPP) can make a little promise here or there. He is not in a position to fix roads, and deliver other government services to the St. Mary’s South constituency
What Kelvin Simon from the United Progressive Party (UPP) can offer in such a debate is a laundry list of Samantha Marshall’s neglect of St. Mary’s South.
This is new. No longer buying off the people is a sure thing. Debates are tricky .. I live in a city which had a recent election. The debate questions supposedly came from the public. One candidate gave her supporters the questions to be submitted. Her opponent was caught flat fotted. As expected she won the debate and the election.
Who is going to moderate the debate, or pose the questions to the candidates?
“THE ABLP IS THE GOVERNING PARTY. MARSHALL AND THE ABLP ARE THE ENTITIES RESPONSIBLE”.
When I read this sentence I said BINGO. This is the CRUCIAL POINT.
Samantha Marshall and her CABAL have been in government AND THE CONSTITUECY HAVE VIRTUALLY FALLEN APART.
gaston CLOWN even recently said that Kelvin Simon in opposition can get nothing for the constituents.
What does that mean in lay-man language? IF ARE YOU NA VOTE FOR SAMANTHA (ARE YOU DUMB SELF) MY GOVERNMENT WILL NOT BE GIVING ARE YOU YOUR JUST DUE FROM THE PUBLIC TAX PURSE.
CAN YOU IMAGINE DAT?
Samantha should be ashamed to talk about debate and she should find the strength to PUBLICLY tell gaston CLOWN where to get off.
Anything short of dat, gal shut you damn mouth and goo-way.
UPP is not without blame. They can do a much better job of educating the public and putting policy changes, rather than always taking a reactionary stance.
A debate? Or more empty promises? Samantha’s horrible record speaks for itself. WTH is she going to say now after 9 years? Her report card is there and people can see. She has been doing nothing but talking and the people gave her their answer on Jan 18th. They rejected your offer Samantha. Keep walking Samantha. No need to run again!
Tell her to have the case dropped, and resign.
Respectfully decline..
They have no moves left..
Suggy challenges Samantha to 14 days of fasting.
This would be a good one (laughing my ass off).
You have some smart people backing you Shuggy, listen to them. The first thing that came to my mind before even reading the full article or the comments is ‘ debate my back side, for what’.
The opponent have nothing to prove until they get in office, this woman had 9yrs to deliver on her agenda and failed miserably, hence a 199 vote margin whooping, what is a debate going to prove but wasted energy on someone who the people vehemnently rejected.
In the words of this American slang, Samantha go sit your arse down somewhere!!!
SaMarshall…you shoulda put dat pon de table prior to 18/01/2023. You sarl!! Former MP Simon. No fall fu dat! She can debate she self on RUMSHOP RADIO.
Tell Stone DAT!!
Suppose the court rules that Suggy was ineligible, hence the only viable candidates were Samantha and the young man from the DNA
Then what? Should the next candidate with the most votes be the parliamentary representative?
One big mess …
The Election Court have no jurisdiction to decide a winner.
It can say if a candidate is in breech of ‘a law’ but it cannot decide a winner.
The Constitution says what should happen (and rightfully so). Back to the polls.
