A new buyer has stepped forward to purchase the Jolly Beach Hotel and is willing to do so by purchasing form the substantive owner—The Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

A new wrinkle, however, has been introduced by the former owners of the Jolly Beach Property and AOB Bank.

It appears that a charge of $15,000,000.00 was placed on the Jolly Beach property unbeknownst to the other creditors owed by the Jolly Beach Property.

It has made the sale of the hotel unlikely until such time as a court has determined on the invalidity of the claim now being made against the property.

  1. When first we start to deceive. What a tangled web we weave. A once beautiful beachfront hotel has been left to succumb to the mismanagement of the acquisition of the present government and its failed leadership.

The self proclaimed “Grandmaster “ of real estate development has been TRUMPED!!! Lesson 101 before buying/selling any real estate; improved or unimproved check the record to see if any liens have been placed on the property on or after.

What a JOKER! When you think you outsmarting one. You are outsmarting yourself!!! ie. HALF MOON BAY!!!

  2. This is such a tragedy. Jolly Beach, a true example of a Caribbean wonderland resort where my husband and I been calling our “Second Home” for over ten years have left us as well as hundred others, Broken Hearted. The Prime Minister should be ashamed for not saving Jolly Beach as well as not making such the employees are paid their (much needed) back-pay, etc.

    • Kimmy Lee, I have the same feeling as you regarding Jolly Beach. My husband, myself and our friends have be vacationing at Jolly Beach for 27 years. Like you said, we called it our “second home”. What a shame that the government has let this beautiful resort go to hell just like the casino outside of the resort. In my opinion, Jolly Beach has the best beach on the island and it killed me to see pictures of it with grass and weeds taking over; totally neglected. I just loved the flavor of the resort as a true Caribbean resort. Yes, it did need some updating, but I wouldn’t change the architecture of the resort. Antigua doesn’t need another 5 star resort like Sandals, but instead keep it affordable with reasonable rates and all inclusive. I’ll miss all the friends we have made at the resort and the locals on the beach. Also, I hope the government will do the right thing and reimburse all the employees who have money coming to them. It’s been going on too long!

  3. Surely the court will decide on the VALIDITY or otherwise of the claim, not invalidity?

  4. So the ‘substantive owner’ had no clue about this?
Marvelous due diligence from AG & Minister of Finance.

Only last week this jolly beach ting was a bright shiny good news story.
And politicians of all colors wonder why we the people take everything they say with a big pinch of salt?!!

  5. Any new news on the future of Jolly Beach? I really wish they would just let it remain standing as is and do some remodeling while it remains open. The structure of the resort makes me feel I am in the Caribbean with the flavor of the island. I do not wish to stay at an expensive modern up scale resort. I would love to book our vacation at Jolly Beach next March. They are losing a lot money everyday as long as it remains shutdown.
