Saints, Earthquake Book Warriors Cup Final Showdown
A quick-fire hat-trick by Prince Walter spurred Attacking Saints to big win whereas Earthquake recorded a narrow victory as both sides won their second successive matches to secure their birth in the finals of the Warriors Cup.
Walter, once a national team goalkeeper now a striker, fired home in the third, eighth and 15th minutes as Saints beat Young Warriors 5-1 while Earthquake overcame Young Lions 3-2 in Sunday’s double-header at the Mack Pond Playing Field, All Saints.
The home side, who will play in the top Premier Division this season after only four seasons in the ABFA league, and their Fort Road-based opponents will contest the final on Tuesday kicking-off at 6:15pm.
Saints, who had defeated Young Lions in their first match last Thursday, got into the groove early as Prince took advantage of inadequate defending to slot home his first two goals from close range before hitting a belter from about 20 yards.
Young Warriors – defeated by Earthquake 1-0 in their opener – briefly rallied when Jondale Jno Lewis angled a shot into top corner to make it 3-1 after 22 minutes.
However, second half conversions by Raheem Carbon and Andre Ephraim squashed any hopes of a comeback.
Jermaine Meade, Navor Mason and Junito Jeffrey netted for Earthquake as Young Lions’ Latrel Lewis made it 1-1 at half-time, and Caheem Murraine made it 3-2 with eight minutes to go.
