The Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown (RCAS) the Rotary Club of Antigua  (RCA) and the Rotaract Club of Antigua gathered today at the St. John’s Cathedral to celebrate Rotary World Peace & Understanding Day and Rotary’s 114th year of existence.

“In accordance with Rotary’s Fourth Avenue of Service, Rotary has continued its quest for goodwill, peace and understanding among people of the world”, said Jonah Ormond, RCAS President. “Rotarians have the ability to transform the concept of peace to a reality through service.”

Continued Ormond – “The Rotary Foundation has six areas of focus, each of which is important and geared at fostering peace in the world. We can’t really celebrate World Understanding and Peace Day in February, unless we can demonstrate that we are working for peace – and that (peace) is something Rotary is very committed to.”

The Rotary Clubs in Antigua carry out service projects each year, aimed at assisting various sectors of the community. Notably, projects executed have been in the areas of health, education, poverty alleviation, environment, community and youth development.

Worldwide, polio eradication, one of the largest global public health initiative in history, is doing a tremendous amount to promote peace – by building partnerships between the public and private sectors, by improving health infrastructure and monitoring the poorest areas, and by making it clear to all that we cannot have a healthy world if even one child is forgotten.
