Riding out the storm in Barbuda

0

Police and soldiers safeguarding property on Barbuda will ride out the storm there.

Minister of National Security Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin said the law enforcement officers will be safe.

He said the officers and soldiers are there to serve and protect and are in a secure location. Benjamin, however, would not reveal where they are staying as a matter of national security.

According to him, all precautions will be taken to secure the premises where the law enforcement personnel are staying to avoid the loss of life and limb.

Members of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force were detailed to the sister island following the passage of Hurricane Irma two Tuesdays ago.

The men were sent there to ensure that the personal effects of Barbudans are not tampered with and to enforce the evacuation order, making sure that no one is on the island without the relevant permission.

Antigua and Barbuda has been placed on a tropical storm warning as Hurricane Maria, now a Category 3 system, barrels towards the Leeward Islands.

Other islands, including Dominica, will be hit by hurricane force winds.
