Revitalizing Agriculture: Minister Anthony Smith Jr. and His Vision for a Food-Secure Future
Since taking office as the Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries, and the Blue Economy, Anthony Smith Jr. has demonstrated unwavering dedication to boosting local food production and enhancing the lives of farmers in Antigua and Barbuda. His tireless efforts to modernize and strengthen the agricultural sector have already begun yielding impressive results.
A New Era of Agricultural Development
Minister Smith’s first order of business was to address the pressing issue of inadequate machinery. He successfully acquired a new tractor and brush cutter, bringing the total fleet to six while also repairing several damaged tractors he inherited upon taking office. This significant investment will enable the ministry to provide essential plowing assistance to local small farmers, helping them increase crop yields and improve their livelihoods.
Clearing the Way for Progress
To further support farmers, Minister Smith, through the CDF, has secured financing for an excavator and front-end loader—crucial equipment for clearing trees and constructing roads and dams for local farmers. This strategic move will not only enhance accessibility but also facilitate the transportation of produce, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
A Commitment to Food Security
Minister Smith’s ultimate goal is to increase agricultural contributions to the country’s GDP and improve food security nationwide. By empowering local farmers and providing them with the necessary resources, he aims to reduce reliance on imported produce and create a more sustainable food system.
A Leader with a Vision
Anthony Smith Jr.’s appointment as Minister of Agriculture has brought a fresh perspective to the sector. His experience as a Member of Parliament for All Saints West and his commitment to transparency and integrity in governance have earned him the respect of his peers and constituents. As he continues to drive agricultural development, his leadership and vision will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s future.
A Call to Action
Minister Smith invites local small farmers to reach out to the ministry for plowing assistance and to explore the various initiatives and programs available to support their endeavors. By working together, the government and the agricultural community can create a brighter, more food-secure future for Antigua and Barbuda.
As the country looks to the future, one thing is clear: Minister Anthony Smith Jr. is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the agricultural sector. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the well-being of local farmers will undoubtedly yield a bountiful harvest for generations to come.

This doesn’t add to the nation in any agricultural capacity, all it is the same scam with Peter rippon and them CPR company which are ALP comrades ripping off Antigua tax payers and the ALP politicians always use that company to get there cut. It seems as though they are letting in Anthony Smith on ways for self enrichment. This CPR Peter rippon company has been ripping of APUA in some corrupt questionable deals fabricated between APUA management going back four decades, and also the agriculture department and public works, they were part of the late Lester bird unity forum blue eye boys, just as jeff hadeed still is today been favored by the ALP politicians as superior blue eye boy and even blessed with ambassador title to hold monopoly on restaurant catering services at the airport, one a the onliest international airports in the world with one restaurant, during upp time they allowed even the bargain center supermarket to have restaurant at the airport before they left office forcibly by the Syrian rich family financing of ALP and Gaston. Back to CPR they have been robbing the country for years with mysterious financial agreement on equipment that is parted up on politicians and APUA management and public works and agriculture management.
Amen! Amen! Amen!!!!
The UPP has given you eyesight and vision.
You rose to prominence on the back and shoulder of the UPP.
You betrayed them for thirty pieces of silver.
The UPP and their lazy lawyers had you by the collar and gently put you down.
When they should have tightened the noose around your neck they let you go to crucify them.
Today you are driving nails in their coffin.
Justin Simon, Kenny Kentish, Leon Chaku Symester and Sherian Bradshaw what are you doing?
Wake up from your slumber.
Rubbish!!
Some people bitter see!
So what he nar bother grow food in Venezuela or where ever he said and ship to Antigua again? Asking for a friend.
Them 5 tractors that down over 2 years now, can’t make 1. So Agriculture has 1 and a quater tractors for over 800 farmers Island wide. Well done! Its a start.
Honestly, the last and most meaningful Minister of Agriculture that made an impact on Antigua and Barbuda in my recollection was the late Robert Hall. All other previous Agriculture Ministers has done very little to move agriculture to the prominence that it should be. And given what is happening the world today, we better cease giving lip service to agriculture and make it the most important and relevant Ministry today and going forward. Tough days are ahead!

You are giving praises to Robert Hall for what he did in Agriculture. Can you please justify that by stating his wonderful accomplishments?
