Returning Residents Demand Urgent Information On Quarantine

A family returning for a funeral have voiced their complaints in regards to the confusion and lack of information with quarantine and testing.

According to one of the family member, who opted to remain anonymous, the family arrived on the island on Saturday for a funeral on Tuesday morning.

Since Saturday, they have been in mandatory quarantine at the Hawksbill Hotel. She also added that other persons who arrived on the same flight as her were allowed to leave while she and her family remained on lockdown.

In a statement released yesterday, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said that health officials have strengthened the management of quarantining procedures, by mandating the overnighting at a public quarantining facility, for all passengers who will be living in the domestic communities.

Thereafter, these passengers will be interviewed to determine their eligibility for self quarantining at home. Those who are not eligible, will remain in the public quarantining facility for seven to fourteen days.

The returning national, however revealed that since her mandatory quarantine had commenced she has received no interview neither has she been tested.

Additonally, she was informed upon arrival that she would have to be in quarantine for 24 hours, but was later told it would be 48 hours. The time has passed and the woman says she has received no updates.

Now, the woman and her family are confused as to what is happening and says that this was not what they were told before arrival.

The family is appealing to the government to urgently provide an update, in hopes that they will get to attend the funeral on Tuesday

  1. not tested! But wait, the PM has been saying everyone was being tested! Hmm, surely the PM has not being trying to mislead us about testing?

  2. It’s quite obvious that the returning nationals were given different info as what they provided the Antiguan public with.
    Lies, lies and more lies……
    When does it end?

    God help us all.

  3. I guess they don’t know anyone I power. Word on the street is, people who have family members who know big people in Antigua, will just make a phone call and get their family out of quarantine and now they can go like as they please

People are lining and boasting saying, oh my man just call so and so and they tell me I can leave.
