A new tentative date has been set for the return of Antigua & Barbuda students in Cuba.
Foreign Affairs Minister ER Chet Greene says the flight originally planned for Tuesday is now likely to arrive by June 29.
He says this is because of a request made by the St. Kitts students who will also be on the flight. Greene says these students have indicated that they will not be able to travel before June 28.
“By the end of the day there should be some clarity on the exact date of the students returning,” the minister said.
The charter flight is being facilitated by the Venezuelan Government.

Dont believe anything the governments says!
Indeed! Not one word!
Ok fair enough.
What about the Chinese students any word Mr. Minister?
As a parent of one of those students who is expecting to return from Cuba shortly for vacation, I must tip my hat to the PM & his government for been instrumental in getting the Venezuelans to offer their assistance to help relieve the kids of their psychological stress and us the parents of our anxiety… As for the Venezuelans, I say Big up! Long live both Cuba & Venezuela…! Like a good samaritan the Venezuelans have come to our rescue once again.. It’s a bit sad though that the trip could not be a week or two earlier, as promised. However, it is better late than never at all…
Alright so the kids were planning their OWN trip because they asked the government for a donation but were told they couldn’t assist. No problem they got donations from others. After other parents attacked the government on the radio and what not they decide they want to help with this “ free” flight. The students have been making calls with the private charter and working with their embassy to get the OK from the Cubans which if anyone knows is extremely tedious. They were planning their charter for the 20th but added the kittitians out of good faith and also helping ease the cost so they extended to the 21st. Then the government announced they want to help and says it would be the 22/23rd. They were then told that Venezuela has given the availability of 23-30th of June so the students made it known they would have liked to leave the 23rd. The kittitians were told by their officials they would leave the 29th. The Antiguan students heard about it from kittitian friends and seemed verification to find out that the 29th was set to accomodate the kittitians. The Antiguan students who have been out of school since the end of MARCH not those in ELAM still in classes; have been trying to find a way home since April or so. School was officially cancelled the beginning of June….. the students decided they would prefer to go back to their charter to then find out that they may not have that option because the government of Antigua and Barbuda would have to grant them permission. So they are sitting ducks. To those who say “ it’s better than nothing “. It is not. They are not being taken into consideration. The point of this flight was for them to leave earlier have more time at home to pack and prepare for the coming semester. Students abroad are not the same as students in Cuba. It’s already a bit difficult for them but with corona virus it has only gotten worse. The students asked the kittitians if they were willing to arrange something so that they would call leave the 23rd on the free flight and they do their first week of quarantine in Antigua then he transported to their home land on a ferry for $454EC each after seven days. This entire ordeal has been very inconsiderate. They are low on basic supplies, shopping in Cuba is not shopping at home, some stores and items the students do not have access to because they are not nationals. I think the least they can do is make a compromise to get the students home by the end of this week. That would be greatly appreciated
U hit the nail on the head. Best synopsis so far.
Mamby-Pamby pickaninnies and their enabling parents. Maybe poor impoverished Cuba should withdraw these scholarships so that our rich kids could apply in the US for admission to pursue their studies.in the land of plenty. Cuba can then redirecț their scarce resources to improve their own lives. Ungratefulness wossa than obeah!
