Residents Told To Brace For Inconvenience From Pipe Replacement Works In St. John’s

The Governor General of Antigua & Barbuda has given early notice of the inconvenience that will be caused once APUA begins to dig up the city streets to replace old pipes.

The warning came on Thursday morning while Sir Rodney Williams delivered the speech from the throne.

He said even though the government has done it’s best to provide all the portable water required, the rains have been intermittent such that even Port Works Dam is almost dry.

Over $80 million have been invested in desalinating plants but the governor general say broken pipes remains a major impediment to providing a reliable supply of water.

“The challenge of leakage occurs, my government has directed APUA to access 37 million US dollars to replace the decades old broken pipes that are principally under the streets of commercial St.John’s,” Sir Rodney announced.

He told the joint sitting of parliament that “one can only imagine the inconvenience that this replacement exercise” will cause .

As such he added that “it is to be planned an executed with precision and all deliberate speed.”

He called the project “the greatest challenge” of the career of the minister for public utilities but added “history assured my government that he will do a masterful job.”

A date for commencement of the project has not yet been announced but it is expected this year after funding has been approved.

  1. You know… This would be a real good time to put in, at the very least, a central sewage system, and build proper sidewalks and drainage!

As this is also an health and environmental issue, let’s just sell the tesla to offset some of the costs

  2. To satisfy the opposition. They should name the proposed new prison. Dr. W. Baldwin Spencer Correctional Facility! At least he’ll have a lasting legacy of lockup. LUMP will be very proud. One more. The Wilmoth“big mouth” Daniel Wadadli PowerPlant. Wonder what they going to say when the port is renamed after the PM! Lard. Ruption go ina Antigua!

  3. Let’s hope that APUA & PWD will collaborate together to have the pipes repaired….. Motorists can not deal with another episode of incomplete projects. It will be very pleasing that after the roads are dug up and the pipes are replaced, the roads will be smoothly fixed immediately after in order to accommodate a smooth flow of traffic…..

  4. @COUNTRY BOY

Those names that you have chosen I am totally in agreement. With your creative mind…What about to name something for HAROLD LOVELL and D.Gisel Isaac

  5. @ BE TRUE TO ONESELF

What not name the new SEWAGE INFRASTRUCTURE IN ST.JOHN’s after Harold Lovell.
Name COOKS DUMP after D.Gisel Isaac.
