Residents react angrily to prime minister’s teaser for another One Nation Concert

REAL NEWS:

People are hungry; there might be no ABST-reduction weekend; the
clearing period for the Christmas Barrel Initiative has been reduced;
and the Browne Administration complains that it has no money –
and, yet, taxpayers could be saddled with paying for another “One
Nation Concert.”

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has suggested a
slate of artistes who might be contracted to perform at the annual
concert, usually held in January.

The list includes renowned Jamaican artistes Beenie Man and Beres
Hammond and Trinidadian soca diva Patrice.

However, the response to the announcement of what used to be a
much-anticipated concert was a barrage of criticism.

Most of those who responded to Browne were of the opinion that
the taxpayers’ money should be better used for things such as
implementing the ABST-free weekend; fixing the poor infrastructure
and the ailing health sector; paying overtime and other emoluments
owed to public servants; repairing the police stations; and
addressing the water crisis.

Persons commented that the artistes mentioned were very costly
and there was no need for this concert given the state of the
economy.

Since the Administration is contemplating an increase of 2 percent
on the ABST rate – from 15 to 17 percent – in order to meet salary
increases, some critics are asking from what source the money to
host this concert will be drawn.

Some people say the government would be wicked to have people
starving while hosting an event that would cost millions of dollars –
which would not be circulated in the country’s economy.

Some note that, while it is being advertised as a free concert, it is
actually a cost to the people through the ABST and other taxes or
port charges.

It appears, however, that the prime minister has removed the post,
given the barrage of criticism from members of the public.

Again, PM Browne seems to have been testing the waters, a source
says.

  1. I hope Gaston get the message loud and clear. The people not playing. The reckless utterances and childish games are stale. We the people are frustrated. We are suffering. This is not the time for no free concert. Too much suffering. Time for Gaston to go!

  2. C’mon #Top_Dawg! U got this! Between you, and Wifey you two can afford to come up and come out of your personal funds, to sponsor the fete, well concert.
Ebrie Ting Irie Man! #Top_Dawg & Wifey’s got this.
So, get the nails sculpted like swords and painted like they’re being displayed, at an Art Gallery.
Get the plastic heated, melted, pressed and moulded in Smurfs Mushroom Homes, and welded, well glued to bare scalps like the Homes & Garden Show is in Town for the weekend.
The #BBL’s need to dropped like “hot droppers” just coming out of the pepper_pot, having the People mouth watering, like they’re hungry and thirsty for some of that, phat BBL, skinning out/twerking like, the “tun_tic,” in the pepper pot, all while Shooting shots for #Tic-Tok!
The “G” #Bangers, got their Skinny’s ready, to SAG off their ass like they’re looking for some, #After_Party Action on Popeshead Street, in Wendy’s Back Rooms!

So, all in all money will be made and some People will be paid, handsomely of course, therefore, again all the #top_Dawg and Wifey has to do, is Just Sponsor It.

Well, at least some People are coming to their Natural senses, and speaking out about this WASTE OF SCARCE PUBLIC FUNDS.
Many have always complained, since, UPP began doing this nonsense, of using public funds to sponsor and promote concerts and fetes. Let the private Fete Promoters get together and give the People, a FREE(entrance only) ONE NATION CONCERT. While, they may not turn a profit on this one, the BARS, FOOD and other VENDING(selling of merchandise to leasing out space for vendors) will offset some of the expenses. They’ll recoup their losses during the #Fetting_Season.

    • I was going to say this! It’s funny dem hu gry and the nails on fleek. They have on the thousand dollar wig and wear the latest, then they cuss government bout everything else. I think we have become so entitled that we think government should be taking care of all our needs. That’s why you have a job, and even though your salary is not big, you have to know how to manage your money so it works for you. But no, ya’ll out there doing all sorts a chupitniss and expect government to pay ya’ll way, and there are people who brain wash them into thinking that government owe them differently. Really sad!

  4. This Prime Minister is so out of touch with ordinary citizens and lives his life in a bubble or gilded cage.

This One Nation concert is the last thing struggling and right thinking Antiguans want to hear about.

THIS MAN IS NUTS … 🤪

1521 days and counting after 40-odd years of Birdism and Browneism – not really long in the scheme of things – can’t wait!!!

Our children deserve a NEW beginning.

  5. This PM really must speak with SENSIBLE advisors, and think before he opens that mouth of his.

He must have been joking about this concert! I’d fell better if some program were put forth that benefitted every single citizen on this Little Rock, no tell me about no dam “free” concert when the cost of living is shooting upwards, and I’ve seen NOTHING to assist in lowering the cost of living.

You’ve effed up the economy, failed to maintain and properly repair and manage the country’s infrastructure, and you have been failing to put forward sensible initiative to get things going again here, but going to waste time to talk about “free” concert? you paying for it out of your 33 million dollar bank account?

    Give me a break

  6. Gaston Browne is fully aware of what he is doing. He is playing you-all like a fiddler does.
He proposes to squeeze and burden you with more taxes and higher costs and sweeten up with a fete.
This time it isn’t working for the people and the opposition has been vocal.
I hope this is a turning point where the people stand up for their interest and long term welfare rather than sitting around for the ham and turkey moment.

  7. It’s the same old game, push a stick up your *as, and a sweetie in your mouth.
Spit on you and tell you it’s raining.
Anyone who dears to point that out, is vilified and degraded as he defrauds you with his words.
I say defrauding, for it dissembles the development of critical thinking among those who considers his gutter snipping outrageous outbursts to be Political entertainment.
A leader can uplift a country, or keep them in the gutter to spit on them.

  8. LMFAO!!!!!!! I can greentree all those “angry” “hungry” “poor” people will be in front the stage wearing the lasted SHEIN outfit, $1000 lace front wig, them long brid claw nails painted in the colors of the rainbow had on them $800 Jordan sneakers and taking selfish with them iPhone 15 max pro. Then the next day them pan Facebook crying them bruck and hungry.

  9. @Next Level
It’s ironic you end with “Drop dead” when your moniker is Next Level; which many times is symbolic of
    six feet down.
    Anger management could be helpful.

  10. @Next Level & Chupes
Some anger management can be helpful to you both.
The behavior you describe is called false victimhood by those who refuse to accept the reality of poverty.
Black folks world over go to church on Sundays and clap shout and sing. Some say the spirit has taken them over.
It’s really a psychological repair with the religious minister as their therapist coupled with the idea of faith and a final place in the skies.
Black people never got any psychological counseling coming out of the trauma of slavery, colonialism or Jim Crow. There are studies which shows the damage follows them for generations.
Church was and still is psychological healing process.
For some that healing process comes about from SHEIN outfit, $1000 lace front wig, them long bird claw nails painted in the colors of the rainbow had on them $800 Jordan.
    Gaston knows this very well.
It’s like the maid or gardener who gets beaten down all week long by his or her boss; goes to church on Sunday and returns on Monday for another week of beat down.
The proposed concert which entailed the dressing up in your finest, to be seen and having fun while forgetting about your troubles. And hopefully tomorrow will be better but at least they had a good time, curtesy of Gaston.
    Don’t blame the victims !!

  11. It is not a free concert. There is no admission to enter that concert. However, the entertainers are being paid with our damn money.Yes,our damn money.Enough is just that, enough.

  12. What next?
    The roads are absolutedly deplorable
We endure many days and night without Water
    The electricity is frequently off
Public servants are crying out for more money in their salaries
Inflation is killing us at the supermarkets
This idea of a concert paid for by taxpayers of this country is real nonsense boss

    • Give me a damn break wait people hungry can’t afford food everything gone up except salaries, 🤧😤😡😱come on man

  13. Give me a damn break wait people hungry can’t afford food everything gone up except salaries, 🤧😤😡😱come on man

  14. Where is Tenmàn and Sideline to try and “Max Hurst” this to us? No surprise here for me. Just strengthened what I already know that Gaston and ABLP are wicked and heartless. So glad I never voted for them.

  15. Antiguans are low lifted scum that love frees … I can bet my last dollar if you tell them boycott the concert and don’t go .. they will all still go. THEY HAVE NO PRINCIPLES

    • Stop the foolish SOUNDBITES @ Point massive and explain your damn self; and then you may go someway in stopping the stereotyping of the global – negative – views of VOTING Antiguans.

You don’t come over as an EDUCATED autochthonous islander!

I bet you think that the letters IQ stand for Independent Queen … 😁

  16. When black people are victimizing black people!!
When they in Authority they don’t give a damn about nobody.
They eating stake and drinking wine their children safe so let poor people behave like idiots running up and down behind them begging for a piece of bread.
Nobody gives a f. Poor people don’t love themselves or their children they only love politicians.

  17. Black people are still stock in slavery
Generation after generation still stock in slavery.
It’s a mental thing. And black people is still holding down their fellow black brothers and sisters in this slavery mentally. Black people hate themselves and one another.

    • Politians know how to play you all like fiddle sticks. They know how to mess with you all brains and you all cannot see what they are doing because a lot of you are blinded by emotions. You all better wake up and smell the coffee. Wake up from the slumber.

  18. I wonder which residence real News is referring to. Not the young people that flock to these shows. I mean, as the saying goes, all work and no play makes jack a dull boy.
    PROVERB
constant work without rest or relaxation is harmful to one’s personal life and well-being.
Apart thereof, we need more laughter in this country. The laughter has gone because of the constant political rambling from the UPP. I do not even think Antigua has comedians that can make us laugh. The old days of Gravy are gone. And what about Paul Keens Douglas, Tommy Joseph, Errol Fabian, Oliver Samuels, Sprangalang. and others. As the PM said you guys need a life.
Antigua needs some comedy and laughter. And the youth need to relax and enjoy themselves.
PM you have my support and blessing to spend out taxes to let the youth have some FREE FUN.
