Removal Of Derelict Booths At The Antigua Recreation Grounds
For Immediate Release – Sunday 09th July 2023 – St. John’s, Antigua……
The Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries is reaching out to any person(s) with interest(s) in any of the booths located at the Antigua Recreation Grounds due to the Ministry’s intention to demolish and remove all derelict booths before the commencement of any 2023 Antigua Carnival event.
The booths in question are situated in the northeastern side of the main entrance next to the gate on Coronation Road. Unfortunately, the conditions of the booths create a hazard within the area, generally and specifically during the carnival season.
As a result, the Ministry will be taking steps, in the interest of the public, to eliminate such a hazard and protect persons during the carnival season.
Therefore, the Ministry requests that any person with an interest in any of the booths mentioned kindly remove all personal items or material from the booth within the next two weeks.
The booths will be demolished and removed after this period.
For further information, contact the Ministry of Creative Industries at the Festivals Office on Redcliffe Street or call (268) 462-0194.
The public’s assistance will be greatly appreciated in this endeavour.

Very good idea.Break dem to heck down and replenish that ground to relevance. That Ground has many historical significance in my opinion. That place is in the City of St.Johns and should be a big Tourists attraction.Tourists should be able to get off the ships and be given a walk around tour of that Ground.
Gn,yes, you’re so right. I think they should have pictures of the West Indies team, who started our cricket, and of our youth rallys, footballers, and our first independent pic, which was started at the ARG,plus our carnival history, ect. Continue with the art drawings on the walls of the ARG all around, with our carnival, and of our historic pictures, flag, the Court of arms, flower, beach with Barbuda included. And the government can also have a little, cricket matches set up, at the ARG,where schools, can play a game and invite the tourists to watch the game,if they want to charge 10.00 us, on entry, which the money can go to an important cause, for our school, sports and uniforms, track and fields, getting their facilities untract. Whenever a crew ship comes in,we can have them driven by the taxi, to the recreation ground first to explore our finest of exhibition, a game of cricket, and where they can also get a look of the the real exhibition of the bat, ball, shirt, gloves, helmet, and the score sheets, ect, in the dressing room, where our cricket all started, and then they can enjoy the rest of our Island tour and our restaurants and beaches.
Awesome thoughts. Let’s hope somebody is listening and see the bigger picture. And hope they give a local contractor the job to refurbished the grounds. The Chinese can work but the local man must be incharge. Gassy boy we know it’s only what you say goes so just take a look at it and at least give us something to look forward too. 2028 not so far away so do à little good before it’s too late.
Hey maybe them businessmen you brining from Africa can be the ones to show us what they got and start investing in ARG.
I watched in that Ground as Brian Lara broke Garfield Sobers’ record of 365.He made 375 then on another occasion at said Ground. He broke his own record by making 400 not out. Both records were made against England Test Teams.
