Reminder: No Sale of Alcohol Permitted During Polling Hours

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission is reminding the public that the sale, offering, or distribution of alcohol is strictly prohibited during polling hours on election day.

Under the Representation of the People Act, no intoxicating liquor may be sold or given away at any licensed premises within a constituency while voting is in progress — from the opening of polls at 6 a.m. until their close at 6 p.m.

The Commission warns that any person found in breach of this law may face penalties, including a fine of up to $3,000 or imprisonment for up to 12 months.

The restriction forms part of measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and lawful voting environment across Antigua and Barbuda.

Authorities are urging business owners and the public to comply fully with the regulations as voting continues nationwide.
