A Browne’s Avenue man has been sentenced to sixteen years in prison for rape as well as five years for unlawful confinement, after a ‘catfishing’ incident that took place in 2017.

The man, Jerome Sylvester, was sentenced by Justice Stanley John in the High Court on Thursday.

In July of this year, a jury found Sylvester guilty of the two aforementioned charges.

It was said that the victim was conversing on Facebook with a female whom she (the victim), eventually told that she needed money to purchase a dress.

The individual using the profile offered to lend the complainant the money.
