Rapist Karl Warner Does not want his name and Photos published in the media

In an effort to shield his identity, body modification artist Karl Warner attempted to halt the release of his name and photograph during his sentencing hearing, which was adjourned last week.

Warner, found guilty last month on seven counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl over a three-month span in 2021, argued that media coverage violated his rights under Section 29 of the Sexual Offences Act.

This law traditionally safeguards the identities of both accused and complainant in such cases.

During the trial, Justice Tunde Bakre heard evidence that Warner’s relationship with the teenager began when she visited his piercing business in her school uniform. Testimonies detailed encounters starting on February 24, 2021, and continuing for months.

Attorney Wendel Alexander, observing in court, clarified that anonymity protections lift following a conviction, effectively allowing Warner’s identity to be disclosed.

Warner, who represented himself, asserted that the publication breached his constitutional rights. The judge adjourned the hearing to November 26, with Warner indicating he will file further documentation to challenge the media’s right to name him.
