Rape in Antigua: Day 21

9

Today marks 21 days since Antigua News Room (ANR) first reported that a young woman had filed a report with the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, accusing a member of the Gaston Browne Cabinet of raping her.

Today, 21 days later, the country remains in the dark about whether the Cabinet Minister has been questioned by police or if he is still a member of the Cabinet.

WRIT of MANDAMUS: The duty sought to be enforced must have two qualities: It must be a duty of public nature and the duty must be imperative and should not be discretionary.

A credible opposition or NGO can file seek the above in the High Court.

  2. Ain’t shit gonna change because everything in these comments section have to be ALP or UPP not wrong or right and it reflects in some of our leaders decisions. The leaders in whichever Party can do no wrong . Accountability has to begin someway someday or else your children’s children will be writing the same things your writing.

    • See things as they are.
If the reasonable expectation was for the government to be fair and just then there would be no need for opposition.

NGO and opposition has a major role to play in ensuring justice and fairness and good governance practices in any society.

The solution is in the first post. Ask yourself why Her Majesty’s Royal Opposition do not take that action?

Talking and marching does not produce fruits. a WRIT of MANDAMUS will.

  3. Get up, stand up.
    Stand up for your rights.
    Get up, stand up.
    Don’t forget the fight.

When they have power and authority,
They don’t give a dam about you or me.

We need to organise and picket outside the minister’s office.

Thank you ANR for keeping this in the forefront.

Let’s not forget Nigel Christian’s kidnappers and murderers too.

Let’s not forget about MP Elmo and his predatory sexual behaviour.

Let’s not forget about the worker who was killed in broad daylight in Heritage Quay.

Let’s not forget about Nigel Christian’s co-worker who was shot outside his house.

Let’s not forget about the damage been done by Yida to our fragile mangroves.

It is very clear the govt does not care about its people. WE THE PEOPLE now have to stand up against the govt and protect ourselves. The govt needs to know it works and represents us NOT the other way around. Enough of the “creative enrichment” schemes at the expense of WE THE PEOPLE.

  4. Does all the people who are inquiring/suggesting an arrest knows what happened? How many times have people been accused of rape and was just a hoax/set up? Because a report was made and he is a politician (and I would be the last person to defend a politician) doesn’t mean he is guilty. Can it be the police has/is conducted/conducting their investigation and so far based on their determination they MAY not have enough to move forward with charges?

    • I agree with you 💯. This is why so many cases are lost in the courts. The police love to give in to public pressure and then they do a butched investigation which leads to the accused person getting off.

  5. Really ,so if they may not have enough evidence to move forward with charges then why the deafening silence !!
