ABLP candidate for St. Philip North Randy Baltimore says deteriorating roads in Newfield will be his top priority if re-elected, pointing to ongoing works while acknowledging long-standing infrastructure challenges across the constituency.

Speaking during an appearance on ABS Television’s “Know Your Candidates” programme, Baltimore identified road repairs as the most urgent issue facing residents, with particular focus on Newfield, where aging asphalt has worsened over time.

“The major challenges within the constituency that I will address promptly after the general elections is the infrastructure within the constituency,” Baltimore said. “Newfield will be my primary focus when it comes to road infrastructure.”

He said roadworks carried out during and after the recent by-election are part of a broader effort to improve access, noting that contractors have already been deployed in areas such as Newfield and Zion Hill.

Baltimore also pointed to upgrades along the road leading to Stingray City, a key tourism attraction within the constituency, describing its previous condition as “deplorable” before recent improvements.

“That road has been in a deplorable state for many years,” he said, adding that engagement with government officials led to it being graded, rolled and paved ahead of the tourism season.

He credited the Ministry of Works and local contractors for ongoing efforts, saying infrastructure upgrades are being treated as a continuous process rather than a one-off intervention.

The ABLP candidate argued that improving road conditions is essential not only for residents but also for economic activity, particularly in areas tied to tourism and daily commuting.

Baltimore is seeking to retain the St. Philip North seat in the April 30 general election, following a decisive by-election victory last month in which he secured roughly 70 percent of the vote.

  1. So all these ABLP candidates are promising to finally fix the roads that they sbould have fixed during the last 12 years they have bedn in charge of managing our public infrastructure. THIS IS AN ADMISSION OF FAILURE. Our road network is one of our most important public assets. The massive deterioration of our roads in recent years and the cosmetic and poor quality repairs that we see going on now … not to mention the lack of engineering standards and proper planning ..
just demonstrate the incompetence of this ABLP administration. They are incapable of managing anything..except the corrupt schemes that are lining their pockets. Time for a change!!! Lets vote them out!!!
