France (AP) — American sprinter Rai Benjamin convincingly beat world-record-holder Karsten Warholm and Brazil’s Alison dos Santos in the 400-meter hurdles final at the Paris Olympics on Friday.

Benjamin clocked 46.46 seconds to win gold, finishing several strides ahead of Warholm (47.06) and Dos Santos (47.26).
Benjamin was able to win despite landing awkwardly coming over the eighth hurdle in a race between the three fastest men in history.

Benjamin won silver behind Warholm when the Norwegian set the world record at the Tokyo Games three years ago.

@ pringle need fu get back a kindergarten cause me a tell u he real slow

I personally think he brighter than you and your COW MOOMA.

  2. I hope you guys don’t come with this big applause and congratulation that makes it sounds like Antigua did something in the Olympics, cause we didn’t. An American ran for his country and got gold, yes we gonna now hear Wadadli mention in conversations, but look at it like this only one guy gives Rai problem in the 400 hurdles so he could have easily put on the Antiguan flag and represent, but he chooses the red, white and blue.
Jasmine Camacho Quinn a good example the GOAT in the 110m hurdles can easily represent the USA, but instead put on the Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 flag and easily puts Puerto Rico on the medal board in the World and Olympics games every time around.
But who could blame Rai? Wadadli will never win an Olympic medal cause we put nothing in, every four years our top athletes on their own try to find some heats where they can be qualify for Olympics and the sport ministry is nowhere to be found. Ask Miguel Francis and our high jumper Ms Priscilla Frederick, I also think we had a female shot putter that was doing well, but they all dissappear.
I think the entire athletics association needs to dissappear. Great accomplishment Rai, big things now keep doing what you do.

  3. Congratulations to this young man RAI BENJAMIN.HE was born in Mount Vernon,New York. I am aware his father and mother are from Antigua. However,he was born in the USA and ran in the Olympics for the Country of his birth. He is on his way to greater things in his life. The sky is the limits for that young man.

  4. @Carvaa We act like careless parents who do nothing for their children but then want to be in the photos and say, “Ah fu me pickney dat” when they succeed.
    Smh.

  5. Would have been nice for Rai to run for Antigua but the truth is, it does not make sense for him to do that. The USA gives him much more financial support, coaching, facilities, top medical doctors and he will likely earn far greater sums in endorsements running as an American. If he ran for Antigua, he would be on his own training wise and financially. American companies pay American athletes for endorsements, not foreign athletes unless you are as huge as Usain Bolt. Otherwise, you make nothing from endorsements. Well done, Rai!

  6. It’s a great accomplishment but let’s face the facts, he was born in the US, and went to school in the US. And is representing the US. He does have Antiguan parents. But let us ask ourselves this very important question. What has Antigua ever done for this gentleman to aide in his athletic development. Up until three years ago he was totally unknown to the nation all be it to his relatives. Now you want to claim his success. Stop it. I am proud that the seed of our nation has acclaimed the apex of his athletic career and wish him many more years of success. Every Olympic we send a mere six to eight athletes with ten to twelve officials where there should be more athletes than officials. Congratulations Rai on winning gold and making your parents proud.

  7. Thea who won gold for Dominica has lived in the US since the age of 5. She got all her training there in Maryland. JuJu from St. Lucia got her professional training in Texas at university. Happily, they were born in Dominica and St. Lucia and kept their ties. Most of the Jamaican athletes have done the same. Realistically, the Caribbean simply cannot afford the resources that it takes. Roads, health, water plus football, cricket, netball, basketball, swimming, churches,, service clubs, steel bands, carnival – all want sponsorship. Government and the small private sector are overwhelmed.

  8. @Biggs…everything is for everybody yet, every body is not for everything.
Therefore if wishes were horses beggars would ride.

  9. PAY HIM FOR GOLD – It’s simple, the US pays USD$37.5K for a gold medal. If Antigua government pays him USD$100K for a gold medal, he can run for Antigua next Olympics…win-win then he can go back to performing his sport however he pleases. $100K is not that much in the big scheme of things and it puts us in the history books, and it won’t really impact him from getting endorsements and other big money in the US

  10. Pay him a 100k! How about using that 100k and bring our athletics program up to standard? Invest in a four year program that will see us sending a real team to the LA Olympics, not only on track but also in the field. Are you telling me, we don’t have any talented youth that can skateboard or jump on a BMX bike and if given the facility is a possibility? We need to be able to introduce at least one relay team be- it mixed or straight in the world relays, Invest in the youngt talented female swimmer, Our track clubs are a joke.
Not even 200k would get Rai here especially after winning two gold medals, which would have been impossible with Wadadli since we don’t have a 4×4 relay team, or even being close to getting one up that standard. The bottom line is his parents are from here, but I can swear not once did they ever say to Rai how about??
