Question of the Day: Do you think it’s time for Antigua to move on from its alliance with Japan on whaling?

9

Antigua and Barbuda has once again called for an end to the international whaling moratorium, despite not having a whaling industry or consuming whale products. Given this stance is linked to our relationship with Japan, do you think it’s time for our country to move on from this alliance? Has this relationship run its course?

  1. Daven sounded like an old and well rehearsed Greta Thunberg. Smh. He making noise for whales like we does eat that shite. Lol How dare you defend something we didnt ask you to defend. Why dont you use that platform to speak against your prime minister actively underminiing the UPP. Talk bout that nuh!

  2. Western countries want to impose their belief on everyone. The Japanese and the Norwegians have been whaling for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Stop bowing to western imperialism. The Japanese didn’t kidnap our ancestors from Africa and enslave them.

  3. @Harriet, people have been murdering, stealing, and corrupting for thousands of years, does that justify for that to continue? You hate the US that much that everything you post is always against the US, always. Whaling is wrong, these are not the type of fish/mammal or whatever they are classes that reproduce as fast as regular fish we know. Whaling should be banned. Focus on the points and not your hatred for the US.

  4. Antigua’s ABLP, global warming is affecting us, please pay us money. We want money. Give us money. It is affecting the country, tourism, fish, etcetera. Which I agree global warming is.

But now here, they are saying whaling is good and should continue and there are no risk to these animals. You can say one thing when it benefits you but contradict what you are saying when japan/China is influencing you with money to say the opposite.

Both must be true or untrue. One cannot be true but the other not. This is how you know a government is being influenced by money and saying things in badfaith.

  5. Don’t compare the killing of whales to the killing of human beings. With the exception of vegetarians, humans kill animals all the time. The French are known for eating horse meat. Should they be banned from that? In the UK, people even kill animals as a sport (aka hunting). Should they be banned from doing that?

Why is it OK to kill some animals but not OK to kill others?

It all boils down to a person’s culture. Since most of the western world doesn’t practice whaling, they have a problem with it.

The ban on whaling is hypocritical unless you are opposed to the killing of ALL animals.

  6. Antigua is not a nation that has ever been involved in whaling nor consuming whale, and actually many times of the year whale watching is an admirable part of our tourism product offering. These majestic mammals are peaceful and highly intelligent beings that cannot reproduce at any rate that would sustain any kind of whaling and their benefits in the ocean are tremendous. This is pathetic and infuriating for Daven to speak to the international community as he did as if it is even important to us.

  7. Fully agree Antigua looks bought and after Daven’s delivery, no ABLP person should complain about Pringle. Daven is no public speaker and Pringle is never rude or hostile!
