Question of the Day:
Do you agree with Prime Minister Browne’s decision to consider legislation that would prohibit no-tip policies at hotels, ensuring hospitality staff can keep gratuities directly from guests?

Tips should be paid to workers.
Yes, these thiefing scamps want to keep all the money. If a guest wants to tip a worker for excellent service, they should receive 100% of that tip. The tip belongs to the worker not the owner.
I have to ask 2 questions for clarification first.
1. Are they being adequately compensated?
2. Where does the service charge percentage really go?
Because when I see a service charge on my bill, I don’t bother want to tip. Also tiping is not mandatory so their wages should be able to provide for their needs. Thwy shld find themselves at the mercy of the tips to bring their wages up to adequately cover their budget.
A tip is me showing gratitude for their attention to details in making the experience a lovely one. Sometimes I dont even want the tip to be visible to other workers, just in case they get taken advantage of. It is an incentive for them to keep up their exceptional customer service.
I support tipping !!!
Tips should be shared by all staff from dishwashers on up except for managers on up.
Yes I support it. Even if the guest see service charge on the receipt, some guest,if they want to give a little or big tip to the server or whoever. It’s up to them. It matters not what their flat pay is. Wether or not the workers pay is big or small , Some guest don’t mind giving a tip for the servers Let the workers alone with them tips.
This rubbish about tips causing workers to give preferential treatment… How common is that and the guests can’t complain when they not getting good service?
I absolutely agree with this move. It is a prime example of what a caring and dedicated prime minister should do. Why should the hotels or any other service business have any say in whether a customer tips a worker for great service? As long as they are not being paid to steal from the business, let people strive. Wages are still low in the hospitality industry and the tips help to offset that. It’s a win win.
I agree, wages has nothing to do with a TIP. It’s up to the guest to give, he doesn’t ask what your wage is , also some workers are just lazy why should someone who does exceptionally at their job share a Tip with someone who just doesn’t care? As a latter of fact workers should look to improve and excel at what they do.
LIFE GETS BETTER WHEN YOU GET BETTER. SELF DEVELOPMENT IS THE KEY.
Workers should be able to keep their tips. 100% Yes.
The employees of National Housing should be adequately paid instead of being UNDERPAID and told that their low wages represent their contributions to National development. Any caring and dedicated Prime Minister would shield his citizens from being subjected to Slave Labour .
SANDALS TO DAMN WICKED!!!!!! Harold Lovell allowed them to hoodiwnk him into holding on to our ABST monies….all in return for a cheap plaque and a plate of food! Worst Finance Miinster ever!!!!!
Am a man that just have to tip any time I dine in a restaurant, some time I wonder why since the service the service wasn’t really up to par, but I still do. By the way the correct phrasing is gratuity including or not included which is usually posted on the menu. I even tip at buffet even though your waiter usually just stands around, but I guess it’s a habit I have.
Depending mainly on gratuity has it’s ups and down and so is the hotel industry on a whole, so you would find some waiter making less than the minimum wage just because they are allowed to accept this gratuity and that’s the catch, on the other hand if the establishment has a no tip policy but find away to compensate it’s employees in a descent way, steadily every paycheck, looking and thinking about tips will be furthest from their mind.
Yes tip should be given from the guest to the room attendant because it shows appreciation why control the great to tell them how to control there monies some guest feel real sad when they cannot tip the staff and they said its discrimination telling them what to so with there money
hotels dipping to the service charge staff are being robbed of fair pay and whoever made this law that managers shouldn’t get service charge is out of their mind.
the history of tipping is disgraceful. Tipping is actually a legacy of slavery in the US where slave owners would tip slaves for work rather than pay a salary. Tipping allows employers to get away with paying lower wages. The approach on the island should be for the government to force these million dollar companies to pay decent wages, not for employees to be dependent on how servile they are to make decent money.. The union, weak as it is, should also be calling for an increase in the minimum wage so as not to have employees dependent on tips
How come we concern with “tips” when we are blinded by bribery and corruption by our so called leaders?
