Queen Elizabeth II said in a statement Tuesday that “the whole family is saddened” over the allegations Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leveled in their TV sit-down and that the “issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning” — although “recollections may vary.”
The queen — addressing the pair’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired Sunday — said, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” according to a tweet by a BBC reporter.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members,” the queen added.
Harry and Meghan told Winfrey that someone in the royal family expressed “concerns” to the prince about “how dark” their son Archie’s skin would be. Markle is biracial.
