Pythons’ cricketers and Warriors’ footballers to tour St Kitts & Nevis on development mission

All Saints Pythons Cricket Club and Young Warriors Football Club have jointly collaborated to  embark on a goodwill tour of St Kitts & Nevis from April 14-19, 2022 (Easter weekend) as part of a development programme for their players as they seek to enhance their playing abilities and broaden their horizon in life.

Both clubs view this tour an important component of their overall strategy to ensure their players are competition-ready for the on-going Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) season and the upcoming Antigua & Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) season recommencing in September 2022 following the two-year hiatus necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pythons, who won the Vax-8 10-overs competition in January and placed third in the recently-concluded ABCA Super40 tournament, will play three matches against top clubs in Nevis comprising two T20s and one 40-over affair.

Young Warriors, who have been inactive since 2020 because of the lockdown on football which curtailed the last two ABFA seasons, has been engaged in several practice matches against club and community teams in preparation of the tour. Warriors’ will compete in a four-team tournament, playing back-to-back over three days.

The tour has been conceptualized and organized by Colin “TinTin” James, president of Young Warriors, who has been supporting the Pythons’ during the last eight years.

“I view this experience as a great opportunity for the young and talented players of both players to expose themselves to overseas competition with a view to develop into elite cricketers and footballers,” says James, who’s also the Commissioner of Sports.

“It is not just about sports but also an avenue for the players to explore two Caribbean islands as part of their personal development.”

An official of Pythons says they readily accepted the invitation extended by Mr James to do the tour, to give their cricketers a chance to sharpen their skills as they seek to do well in the on-going two-day league.

“We also have a young but somewhat inexperienced team so this tour will further help to develop the players as they aim to grow from strength to strength,” the Pythons spokesman says.

Leeward Islands batting all-rounder Kofie James is one three guest players in the Pythons squad along with Elroy Francis Jr, and Avier Christian.

National U20 selectee Reuben Rubel and national U15 selectees, Sedique Adams and guest player Jaiden Wray, as well as national training team goalkeeper, Jahkeiffe Jeffers are in the Young Warriors squad.

Both All Saints and Young Warriors express thanks to St Kitts & Nevis cricket and football authorities for assisting in arranging the tour.
