More Antiguan and Barbudan teachers have been exposed to information that will help them to become textbook authors.
Having successfully completed a Mathematics workshop on Tuesday, International Publisher Dr. Elaine Higgleton, met with 16 teachers and Education Officer for Science in the Ministry of Education, Anthony Spencer.
The main objective was to explore the possibility of publishing a local primary science series. Teachers involved in other subjects also attended the session which was held at the Maria Holder Early Childhood and Resource Centre in Buckleys.
Participants were exposed to the many things involved in textbook writing, and publishing. Some of the teachers who attended were ready to commit to writing, while others saw themselves as possible reviewers of future text books.
Dr. Higgleton indicated that HarperCollins, having recently published Anthea Thomas’ Primary Social Studies for Antigua and Barbuda, and Big Cat Books written by Desryn Collins, Joanne Hillhouse and Barbara Arrindell, is committed to doing whatever is necessary to help local teachers have material that is not only in line with the syllabus but books that students can relate to.
