In an interview conducted by George Wehner, environmentalist John Mussington expressed grave concerns about the impact of recreational ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) activities on a protected sandbar. Located in an area zoned for turtle nesting, the sandbar serves as a crucial habitat for endangered species.
Mussington highlighted the importance of the area, explaining that turtles hatch on specific sections of the beach and return to the same beach to nest 30 to 60 years later.
The sandbar is meticulously managed to ensure that heavy vehicles, including ATVs, do not disturb the nesting sites.
The environmentalist emphasized that recent developments and the associated increase in ATV use pose a significant threat to the sandbar’s ecosystem.
He lamented that some individuals prioritize recreational activities over the preservation of the environment, leading to the destruction of the sandbar and disturbance of the nesting areas for turtles.
Mussington urged for immediate action to protect the sandbar, calling for strict regulations to prevent further damage.
He emphasized the need for responsible behavior and respect for the environment, emphasizing that the sandbar is not just a recreational area but a critical habitat that must be preserved for future generations.
The interview serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between development and conservation, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices to protect our natural heritage.

Those areas should be marked, have warning signs erected and put/ enforce laws to protect those areas, its that simple. Like I said before, this place is a big joke, the authorities are a Pack of Quacks.
@Just saying,
Environmental protection worldwide was started by environmentalist like John Mussington. Back then they were referred to as ecologist.
They were volunteers and academics who set out to educate the public as well as to advocate for environmental protection.
Isn’t it ironic that our Prime Minister is about to host a SIDS conference shortly; the very same person who has given the nod the Antigua and Barbuda environmental destruction.
Mussington is educating the public. It’s time for volunteers join him with the signs and enforcement of which you write.
