Former prison officer Dwight Rodney Peters of Ovals has been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison on a murder charge, accused of killing inmate Ricknaldo Isaac from Bendals.

Peters is represented by Attorney Wayne Benjamin Marsh, who told Antigua.news that he plans to seek alternative holding arrangements for his client and will also pursue bail in the High Court.

The case has been adjourned until November 25, with Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason presiding. Several of Peters’ former colleagues attended the hearing in a show of support.

A photograph shared by NewsCo on Facebook captured a moment of solidarity, showing Peters surrounded by colleagues, friends, and family outside the courthouse.

Tensions flared later, when Isaac’s father expressed satisfaction with the proceedings.

Isaac, 26, suffered fatal injuries during an earlier incident at His Majesty’s Prison, where he was allegedly slammed to the ground by Peters. He passed away in May and was laid to rest just last week.

  1. Why did this matter take so long to be investigated? The prisoner died since MAY. Seems as though when the accused attempted to leave the country someone somewhere said “oh shit mi just remember we have this murder investigation here waiting”. Charges followed in the days after his attempted departure, what was going on from May to the date of his attempted departure?

Plus the reports are saying he was transferred in May 2024 from the prison. Who authorised that transfer? Did the transfer take effect before or AFTER the prisoner died? Why was this individual not suspended or put on leave following the incident? Where was he transferred to?

The way this matter was handled seems very strange to me. I am not saying this man is guilty but the way he his work arrangement was handled seems very strange in light of the nature of the investigation against him.

  2. A murder dem murder the man 4 real and now having support, if the man was already locked down nobody has the right to murder anyone so, the man still human and that was inhumane, the did not exempt prison officers, why ? because you are black and he is clear, or he is black and you are clear, NO, the law is for everyone to abide by, you do the crime, you do the time.
Cell Block D waiting on you Mr. Prison Officer, Big Bob waiting, mek sure you oil up good, catch dem creases good.

  3. Hmmmmmmm there is to sides to a story ….public always knows what to say but some of you all family members when they end up in prison and the mental hospital it not an easy thing to deal with them when they are mentally and physically abusive to the workers…you can’t manage them police can’t manage them and they are menacing to society which you all don’t correct 😕 😢 not saying the officer is right but think are you bring them in the world not training them

  4. Oil supplies shut the fuck up you making it sound like man ups and murder the man just so. What the man did him why he lost his Temper you na think you rass hole before you chat bitch
You running you thinking fucking mouth like Dwight just up and kill him, you know how much years him work in jail you know how bus head stab stitches all kind a bruises he endure inna prison and nothing for um
Shut u fucking mouth you stupid rass hole

  5. Dwigjt will definitely get bail tomorrow I’m sorry it wasn’t today only because the high court was closed due to a stinking steng in the building so Gaston do your work and fix the courts
I was happy when I saw the prisoners came to support him because a man is innocent until proven guilty
Dwight you were only doing your job if he didn’t assaulted you all because you tried to separate a fight between him and someone else this wouldn’t have happened the police on the other hand shouldn’t have given you a lesser charge so let’s wait and see what the DPP does in this matter
Hold your head high you are still a good youth and I pray justice rules in your favour

  6. Ain’t go talk much but Peter was a good man sorry this had to happen so rip 😢 this young man God bless the dead.

  7. My Cousin should have never been there in the fist place. He has mental issues and the lock him up for disorderly conducts. Then when the men try to fight him in prison he defended himself. That offer parted the fight by slamming my cousin to the ground. No consideration for his mental problems instead they lock him up due to lack of space at Clare view mental hospital. Instead of treatment he got his death. I’m sorry but I’m not remorseful for the officer. He was brutal and violent. No proper training was executed. You do the crime face the consequences. If he’s innocent then let the courts prove him so.

  8. There’s three sides to every story, people on a whole love jump to conclusion I meet this officer for the first time when I got locked up and we never knew each other and this man treaded me with respect no complain, So the question is what could have cause that.

  9. To charge someone with murder the evidence has to show beyond a reasonable doubt that he intended to inflict bodily harm which resulted in the untimely demise of the said individual. A lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter is more benefiting in this scenario. On a second note if they could house a convicted British Police Officer who was convicted of a sexual assault at the old air force facility. I personally think that the said Prison Officer should be held there also. Putting him amongst the said prisoners whit whom he previously guarded would only put his life in danger.
