Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has urged workers across Antigua and Barbuda to “rise up and demand better,” citing economic struggles and deteriorating public services.

Speaking at the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) Labour Day rally, Pringle said the conditions facing workers and families were unsustainable. “When workers can’t save, can’t buy land, and pensioners must choose between food and medicine—then it is time to rise,” he told the crowd.

He pledged that the United Progressive Party would work alongside the ABWU to push for a living wage above the current $9 minimum. “We must secure better and more opportunities,” Pringle said, warning that the nation’s future was at risk if change did not come.

Pringle also called for public support of both the UPP and the ABWU, describing them as the country’s best hope for political and economic reform. “That is the work of a union that believes in its workers,” he said, vowing continued solidarity with the labour movement.

  1. Economic hardship where? Antiguans who are not working are truly not looking for work. L the amount of people who are well by starting their own businesses is astronomical. Opportunities are afforded to anyone who desires to build a future can do so by starting a an employee and begin to save towards a vision. Even the leader of the opposition is doing well because he is an entrepreneur. He should be showing people the way, and not have them depend upon the government. Learn from the non-nationals from the other Caribbean islands who migrate to Antigua and Barbuda and are doing well.

  2. When a minister is a billionaire it only shows what he is busy doing. Get the rid of him

  3. Poor ABWU/UPP😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 A dismal showing on all fronts!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • VERY DISMAL!!! It was a NATIONAL EMBARASSMENT!!!!! The hanful of people that showed up looked like they didn’t want to be there pappyshowing themselves with UPP/ABWU

  4. Agreed that most of our young men and quite a significant number of women are working but they are nothing but underpaid brush cutters in their ALP attire, whose sole purpose is to effect the results that are needed at election times only. Homeowners are frustrated by the substandard quality of the National Housing structures, which for the most part have been built by what could be qualified as slave labour by unqualified workers because of the salaries. The Money-Hawk said that not been properly paid is their contribution to nation building while he is chasing Alfa Nero millions.

  5. Pringle know to himself he is not no articulate speaker plus he working for the same one percenters that Gaston is working for, the young man put on a dark shades to fake it, I am not inspired by him, even Lovell speeches was too much of the queens english, if only he would have communicated in our vernacular something like Franz, wilmouth, George Walter and great Baldwin Spencer. Pringle will be defrocked sometime to come, heard of heavy duty equipment working in barbuda for him bought by the rich Syrian family.

This guy Richard Lewis been attack by his own party and ALP tells me he is anti-establishment and will make a good prime minister.
