Pringle says Browne’s ‘consultation’ letter is intended to deceive

Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle is crying shame on Prime Minister Gaston Browne for releasing a sham “consultation” letter intended to deceive The People about his appointment of Arthur Thomas.

 

Over the past five days, PM Browne has been criticized for what MP Pringle asserted was his failure to consult with the Opposition Leader, as required by law,

 

ahead of Thomas being appointed Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC).

 

“But, miraculously,” Pringle says, “on Tuesday morning, February 20, the Daily Observer was able to publish a letter that implies there was consultation.”

 

The letter, bearing the prime minister’s signature, is dated February 15 – the day before Thomas’ appointment by the Governor-General.

 

In the letter, Browne advises Pringle of his choice and closes by thanking him for having consulted on Thomas’ appointment, which he presumes meets with the Opposition Leader’s approval.

 

Not only was there absolutely no consultation, Pringle says, but an investigation revealed that the backdated letter was delivered to the Parliament Building on Monday, February 19, between 3:30 and 4 p.m., by Chief of Staff Lionel “Max” Hurst.

 

Further, in his haste to cover up his legal omission, PM Browne cites the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act, 2010 – instead of 2001 – thereby adding confusion to his deception.

 

MP Pringle reiterates that he was not consulted; but, had he been consulted, as legally required, he would not have supported the selection of Mr. Thomas for reasons already articulated by the United Progressive Party.

  2. Again, I totally agree with your Most Honourable Jamale Pringle. There should have been a consultation process, not only with the UPP, but also with the voting public as well, so we could scrutinise this dubious engagement.

    The appointment of Arthur Thomas was always going to be questionable, due to the fact he can have a strong influence on the placement or displacement of a political party’s votes.

    When Gaston Browne does anything without transparency or consultation, then ALL Antiguans must be wary due to the Prime Minister’s awful track record over his two terms.

    THIS PM’S DRIVE FOR A ONE PARTY STATE MUST BE HALTED!

    Ask yourself how you could have sunk so low to let the Stem Cell dog corrupt you so bad. One day you are going to leave the stage and start thinking about your legacy. It will not be pretty. Luckily, your wife has escaped the Molwyn hole that she was sinking into. You, sir, are deep in and up to your neck.

    Either take a deep breath and go under, or start stretching your hands to feel for the top.

    The word is that you don’t want the job but because you are so tied to the Dawg (Sam Bankman-Fried, etc?), you have no choice. You were his proud advocate when he came into the job and you had a good time throwing yourself around. Meanwhile he was cultivating you for such a time as this.

  5. What do we really expect from a person who invites his friends into his home! These people are cheats and are very very dangerous. I saw a few of the hangers-on vying for acceptance on Rumshop and they were ALL UPP Traitors who were sanitized by the Lunatic. Maybe because they think that he’s not sane that they can run some numbers around him but despite his challenges, he’s a money hawk so that will never happen.

        MY Family and I voted UPP in the past. We have now decided that We would NOT vote UPP under this current Leadership. Pringle is not a Leader. He is on a tight rope with D Gisele Isaac and the OLD FARTS. Most UPP supporters just like you bury your head in the sand and chat crap everyday while ABLP is recruiting a cadre of young energetic persons to run in the Constituencies. UPP is still sleeping. UPP is on the verge of losing all the seats next election if They continue with these OLD FARTS. Please remove Pringle and the OLD FARTS from the party leadership.

  9. Really, do we expect anything else from Gaston Browne and Max Hurst? Neither of them are credible yet they pollute the airways daily. Of course, the inebriated, red cool aid drinkers will defend this deception.
