Pringle makes appeal for hundreds of displaced LIAT workers

(REAL NEWS) Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle is asking what the Gaston Browne Administration is doing to assist hundreds of former LIAT workers, most of whom are still unemployed after being severed last year.

The Administration, to date, has not offered any relief to the displaced workers here.  The Prime Minister has only suggested that they avail themselves of training at The UWI – Five Islands as part of retooling for future employment.

While the Government has done everything in its power to ensure the airline flies again, Pringle says it has failed to take the plight of the former employees into consideration.

He notes that in the 2021 Appropriations Bill, only a small paragraph makes mention of the workers – and that is to say the Government will do everything in its power to address their concerns.

However, no mention is made of an actual plan to pay them severance, Pringle points out.

Meanwhile, none of the other shareholder governments appear to be making efforts to pay workers their severance and other entitlements, although two of them had resolved to do so.

But online media reports indicate that a well-known social activist has donated food supplies to the former employees based in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Two weeks ago, staff who were dismissed launched an online protest that detailed their plight and asked that they be paid.  While the video has stirred the interest of private individuals, it appears that the governments at whom it was directed remain unmoved.

Court-appointed Administrator Cleveland Seaforth has warned CARICOM Heads that they are exposing themselves to legal action if efforts are not made to settle with the severed workers.

  1. MR.CA PA CA TA showing His head. I thought Pringle was CENSORED / MUZZLED by Harold Lovell. Pringle make all the noise now. You will NEVER win that seat again. Your CONSTITUENTS are ASHAMED of You. Hope Gisele wrote this speech for you.

  2. Not just Liat, look into Carlisle Bay and let us know if what they’re doing to the staff is legal by laying off staff 3 times in less than a year.
Yes it’s a pandemic, but they playing some labour code and union tricks.

  3. The head line “Pringle makes appeal for displaced liat workers” not an appeal to be in office again, the minds of the people are surrounded by politics even an individual is fighting for their rights they are fighting against him

  4. Still no support from his PAID “RESEARCH OFFICER” to help him with his grammar, presentation and public-speaking skills?

Still suggesting that the country go to the IMF? Smh.

  5. Dictator and traitor Gaston demands all businesses pay their employees the severance pay they are entitled to but not when it comes to LIAT. Why should the LIAT saga be any different?

Dictator and traitor Gaston needs to go.

  6. Gaston has to understand that the incompetent Administrator who pays no bills, all phones were disconnected on Monday then he scrambled to pay them on Tuesday, is failing miserable. He was given 6 months to turn the company around, failed. Asked for 6 more and nothing concrete has been achieved except that he gets paid while staff goes on for months unpaid.

Now he is threatening to fire those same staff who stood by LIAT all throughout these hard times.

Will Gaston investigate why all the senior competent members of the LIAT team is leaving? The majority of those left back are the unemployable and those who are too important to leave.

The waste of time uneducated DFO who thinks that running an airline is the same as flying a plane from Barbados to Antigua is dragging LIAT in the mud. The have no balls DME goes along to get along…..Liat is bleeding through it’s nose. The so called Schedule manager who ran home to Trinidad in March of last years and has not been back to Antigua since changes the schedule everyday and cancels flights more frequent tat APUA takes water. LIAT WILL NOT MAKE IT TILL JUNE.
