Prime Minister Gaston Browne has addressed questions regarding the delayed operations of LIAT 2020.

The inquiry, posed by a member of the House, sought clarification on why the airline had yet to commence services despite the Caribbean Development Bank’s (CDB) involvement.

He informed the House that the airline’s administrator had a court hearing scheduled for the previous day to secure final approval for the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to acquire three aircraft.

“Mr. Speaker, the delay has nothing to do with the sale agreement. The administrator had a court hearing yesterday to obtain the final approval for the government to acquire the three aircraft,” Browne stated.

The Prime Minister further outlined the steps required to make the aircraft operational.

“We will need to invest approximately $10 million to get these aircraft airworthy. After that, we should have between five to six aircraft ready for operations,” he added.

Despite these setbacks, Browne highlighted the progress already made with the two aircraft currently leased from Air Peace.

“The two aircraft that are here from Air Peace have commenced operations. They are already conducting charter flights. In fact, a charter was completed by LIAT just yesterday,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Prime Minister Browne assured the House that scheduled flights are expected to begin in early August. “I’m told that scheduled flights will commence in the first week of August,” he confirmed.

  1. ANR please provide real news

““But today, we are in a position in which the government of Antigua and Barbuda has already placed US$12.1 million in escrow for the purchase of three ATRs and we will also make available another US$10 million to repair the three aircraft to ensure that they are air worthy.

“So in essence, we are committed to spending in excess of US$20 million to make LIAT 2020 a resounding success,” Browne told the ceremony.

  2. I wouldn’t fly in a Liat if my life depended on it. The planes falling apart and pilots out drinking til 2 or 3 in the morning before flying. I can name names. Breathalyser for all pilots especially Jamaican and Spanish!

  3. More promises and delays by this deceitful and duplicitous Prime Minister. Many of us have lost count of his so-called assurances and undertakings to this country; and his followers swallow up all these broken pledges.

This is why I mentioned that the Anthony ‘Judas’ Smith was a deflectionary tactic from Gaston Browne’s economic and fiscal mismanagement.

Brixtonian getting it right again once more …

  4. Nevery morning promises promises promises is a comfort to a fool and it’s l👀king like they are plenty of them around if 5 together couldn’t make it happened how in hell could one little light weight make it alone if you start wrong it’s only one way you could end.

  5. Let us, the public, fund projects directly. Sometimes. With guarantees. I am interested in this investment.

How soon do you want all of this money?

  6. More money to waste on old inefficient and potentially unsafe aircraft while former employees are crying and bawling out for their legally entitled severance . Wicked Gaston can find 6 million for traitor Smith but ZERO FOR LIAT EMPLOYEES!

  7. Don’t ever underestimate the power of God, the workers were left hanging and were even cussed out because they ask about their monies, and then you just think the airline would be back in the air making money and all would be well. God never sleeps. My grandmother always say, who no pay the just, will pay the unjust. LIAT workers don’t stop praying.

  8. @Raslman your utternaces remind of the claimed 6 billion usd that came via AbntiguaAirways. Fact is no one needs to be paid to run from a sinking ship

  9. BOAT IS SOLD PEEPS!!! UNCLE GASSY HAS MORE CASH NOW THAT HIS BOAT IS FINALLY SOLD.

  10. I don’t think that anymore can accurately put a figure to the total but money was certainly a part of that flight. Your leader behaves like a child who was promised a toy package. He always talks out of turn but then, he is the author of lies, so we don’t even know if and when he’s telling the truth.

  11. What percentage does air peace own again? How come only Antigua putting in money? Gaston, stop fooling the Antiguan people.
