Prime Minister Gaston Browne is scheduled to visit Barbuda this week to personally evaluate the destruction caused by Hurricane Tammy, which struck on Saturday evening. While the storm brought winds reaching up to 85 miles per hour, it didn’t inflict the extensive devastation experienced during Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
PM Browne initially intended to visit on Sunday, but adverse weather conditions compelled him to postpone the trip. The exact date remains uncertain, but he is committed to visiting Barbuda soon.
Hurricane Tammy initially threatened the mainland but shifted course, directly impacting Barbuda with high winds and heavy rainfall.
In 2017, Hurricane Irma caused millions of dollars in damage, with Category 5 winds exceeding 150 miles per hour. PM Browne’s aerial survey shortly after the storm brought him to tears.
During Hurricane Tammy, reports indicate that just over 4 inches of rain fell on Barbuda between 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Mr. PM. Why waste your time with the Barbudans. You have a minister of Barbuda Affairs. Why not let him do all the assessment that is needed. This is not an emergency. The BPM will not welcome you at all.

We already knew that Gaston Browne had a dislike for autochthonous Antiguans, but it seems his hatred goes a lot more deeper for Barbudan’s as well.

To what end? Millions were collected for Barbuda after Irma and the island is still neglected. Only time and investigations will unveil what black hole or whose pocket the money fell into.

As I write this here is the planned itinerary.
Gaston will fly over to Barbuda by Calvin Aires Helicopter services.
He will tour the south side of Barbuda from the air; followed by an on-ground assessment of Coco Point and Palmetto construction sites with a walk through and some photos.
As he traverses the south coast from air as he makes it back to the helicopter pad where he will be able to see the De Niro site.
After this comment look for the changes. Maybe a few stops visits with the ABLP Senator from Barbuda.

You obviously have not observed your PM on Barbuda, he moves with ease when he is on Barbuda: hugging up, kissing and smiling.

Gaston is a political opportunist primarily created by Asot Micheal and the late Lester Bird.
He is also a quick study looking at politicians from the Western Hemisphere. How quickly did the US President Biden and other world leaders fly over to Israel.
Neither can your PM afford to have his Minister of Barbuda Affairs who is nipping at his heals get the publicity. Gaston needs to continue burnishing his profile and getting positive publicity for the upcoming elections.
